Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Brickhaus Townhall many weeks ago - 50% time in the office

So, its been many weeks after Brickhaus held his townhall telephone conference call. During the call, forget how it came about, Brickhaus mentioned that it was important to spend 50% of the time in the office.

So, we all have panicked and are trying to reach this 50% bogey :( It is a HUGE drain on productivity as team members are through out the day traveling to/from the office to avoid peak traffic hours.

What a total joke!

Hopefully Brickhaus will hear of this thread, and read how his comments have impacted the effectiveness of his workers.

In my case along with the case of most of my coworkers. We all travel to a distant office, that none of our coworkers work in, just to sit in this place. What is the point of traveling to an office that has no coworkers nor people from other departments that we would/could interact with?

Hopefully, this can be reexamined and a sensible policy can be articulated by the VP that started this CLUSTER F*!%k

Do away with the wfh policy and they will see who really works.

But you have leaders like the OP who will have fits and tantrums. If I ran a company people like the OP would be the first to go.

"Hopefully Brickhaus will hear of this"

What a stupid and arrogant statement. So what if he hears of it. If he hears of it maybe he will make it 100% in the office.

T really has some spoiled and obnoxious people ( cough cough I mean "leaders").

"Won't hurt you to interact with folks outside your workgroup...it's called networking and just might help you when your looking for a new job".

This is a joke, right? Who wants to move to India?

It's not so much that they want to see your smiling face in the building (they're probably just counting your badge swipes anyway), it's that they want to make a policy that many people won't follow, so they have a "reason" to fire whoever they want to fire, while keeping similar people that they like (or are related to, etc.).

Allows all sorts of discrimination in plain site to have your termination be your "fault" so expect lots of similar stupid picky rules.

Another example is the loss of a lot of Administrative Assistants to remind folks of Mandatory Coverages, making it our "fault" if we don't complete them in time, then sneaking in extra MCs at the last minute without telling us. Your "fault" for not seeing it, your rating automatically goes down a full step for missing it, and you can be sure the boss' buddies get a tacit reminder, allowing them to be ahead of you when it comes time to force rank.

The wfh is not being enforced consistently. It’s bs.

They want us in office to “collaborate” YET they offshore and we have to work insane hours for offshore teams. NOT to mention the issues with east/coast west coast. I end up working 12 plus hour days. There is NO WAY I am sitting in an office that long. I will go in for an hour or so show my face and do the rest from home. It’s either that or I cut it off at 5 and NO WEEKENDS.

I’ve noticed A LOT MORE people calling in sick too. This was a major failure and drain on productivity.

I'd k--l half of you for 50% office time......ours is 100%.

Spending 2 hours commuting to get to a work location to sit on conference calls and virtual meetings all day.

Genius at work.

@YB0FIgd I agree, productivity & morale has gone downhill. The WTF home policy is not consistent among groups...as usual it's all a BS exercise in futility.

“In a global economy, commuting to the office is outdated; unless you don't trust the employee.“

Be global economy. I have stellar reviews and never abused my wfh privileges but yet revised them but not revoked.

Company use the privileges as tools to manage employees and it is all bs.

They should only be used for people who have to do work during maintenance hours. Really no other reason to have them other than to make people feel like “special leaders”. But since they outsource they off hours work really no one should have them.

The wfh is total bs the in my book and should be gone.

OMG, you poor thing. What are they thinking, no one else makes a worker use their own time to commute from their home to the work place, much less do that 5 days a week. Just unheard of. Brickhaus never said you HAD to go into the office, he suggested you do, but the choice is yours. WHen you are looking for the next job, lets us know how many offer a work from home policy and how many days are allowed.

The VPs are getting their marching orders and implementing whatever the plan of the day is. You’re lucky he just said 50%; most are saying 80% or more. We expect to get more information or where we are supposed to report and how often within the next few weeks.

You're assuming that your VP has a vested interest in this so called new telecommuting policy. VP's push this to the BU to implement and manage. The problem is we have weak GM's that blame the VP's for this inflexiable policy. Won't hurt you to interact with folks outside your workgroup...it's called networking and just might help you when your looking for a new job.

I assume his comments were in general, not for your case specifically. Do you think a VP is watching you and speaking about your specific office condition? You are the one that panicked, yet you don't critically examine your own irrational response. If you examine your language choices and your train of thought, maybe you'd reevaluate your suitability for employment. You sound paranoid and hyperbolic.
