Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Need to quit blaming fellow employees.

Here is the truth. And I think we can all agree. DTV was a very profitable business when ATT bought them out. And they have and always have had very good customer service. Then ATT bought them and all we heard was how it was such a bad buy, DTV people are lazy and so on.

I will get to the point. ATT bought a very good company in DTV. But they only bought it for the content and focused so much on only the content and their belief that now in 2019 we would all have a magical box sitting by our tv, has totally destroyed everything else about DTV.

Yes, satellites are a dying business across the board. But they will be out there for many years. Maybe not a large capacity. But can still be profitable. People dropping DTV is only because of the astronomical cost of satellite TV. $100 plus for satellite VS $20 + streaming solutions no matter how limited the channels are is what everyone wants.

So I would ask that you look back on the history here instead of being nasty . It is a fact that Leadership overlooked and made very bad decisions and now they are In a boat that will sink because of that.

People that work at T and DTV offices are all very nice who just want to make a living and are always in fear of loosing their jobs.

As a former DIRECTV employee, I completely disagree about T legacy people being nice. They're horrendous, because they've been working in a horrendous environment for so long. It's all they know, and it's all they'll ever know.

Now how sad is that?

Ironically DTV does not have 'content', they buy it.... T would have been smarter skipping DTV and going after real content like they did with TimeWarner.... Only problem is, but our executives are SLOW to act, TimeWarner has old stale content.... The new content games belongs to companies like Netflix and IQIYI in China. Their content stars are just beginning to shine.

I love my DTV colleagues. But AT&T overpaid for a business at its peak, making it a terrible investment. It's really just that simple.

I’ve had DTV since the early 2000s. It was great to call the techs when you had problems, and they fixed stuff or at least had a plausible answer. Beginning with the ATT takeover that experience has dwindled to the point I actually loathe to call with a problem. I think that’s by design.

T made other errors also. When they bought Lusecell in 2015 they discovered the entire company was using unsupported computer equipment i.e., PCs were all on Vista. This negated any chance of linking Luscecell electronically to pass financial info to T. The cost to upgrade Lusecell would be enormous. Back in the late '90's, a company exec terminated 1,200 call center employees. Service complaints skyrocketed. That exec was hired by American Express. The new exec hired call center employees again and problem resolved.

T overpaid for the DTV, almost double the amount and that debt is causing a major issue now. Dish TV stock has also come down more than 50% since then so it was a bad deal from business prospective. All T and DTV employees are good folks only and just here to support their family and pay their bills but the layoff threat is looming on all of us.
