Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Laid Off - VAC Payment

My co-worker investigated

I get 33 days of VAC a year. eLink shows I have 33 VAC available. I'm thinking great I'm getting paid for 33 days.

Not True.......................

If you depart AT&T in March you only get the prorated portion you have earned.

Those with

18 VAC days: Paid for 5 days

23 VAC days: Paid for 6 days

28 VAC days: Paid for 7 days

33 VAC days: Paid for 9 days

Obviously if this is assuming you didn't take any of your 2019 vac. If you did then I guess you subtract those from the numbers above.

The extra taxes on vacation might depend on the amount of your severance and it throwing you into another tax bracket if you decide to cash out those days.

The vacation day accrual changed a few years ago, you "earn" vacation days on a monthly basis, divide yearly allocation by 12. You are given all the years vacation up front, if you use all your vacation for the year and terminate employment prior to end of year, they will recoup the unearned vacation days from your last check.

If you have unused/accumulated vaca days to use, use them up because they will be taxed far more if they pay them out in your severance package vs just taking them like you normally would, prior to the layoffs.

If you use all your vacation days and then leave, I believe they will deduct your unearned days from severance. The company is an a cash crunch and looking to save money any way possible.

Anyone know if the company has to cash out carry over vacation days from 2018 in California? I have about 19 days from last year that I couldn’t take because of short term diy. Thanks

Makes sense for the big push in Q4-18 to schedule all Vac days before the end of the year with no carry over....sneaky f---ers

So use all vacation days, get paid out and then leave?

And if you are off-payroll (or as the chart says "month of termination" in Feb it is:

18 VAC days: Paid for 3 days

23 VAC days: Paid for 4 days

28 VAC days: Paid for 5 days

33 VAC days: Paid for 6 days

This info is on OneStop I believe.
