Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Manager Layoff.. Any benefits?

I was told I would be safe for a quarter or two and now I am being told to prepare for Monday. I never counted this out. I knew it can be any day. Too young to retire but ready to move on. I find HR not very helpful. I have 15 years. What can I expect? A couple of months then off payroll? And I think it is 4% for every year for severance? And I think they keep the pension until you actually retire.

Maybe nothing??? Time to move on.

Yes, @1csm is incorrect, anything 13yrs or rounded up will get the full 50% severance pay. 15 yrs is not the qualifier.

Started with Southwestern Bell 23 years Ago. I had 23 1st line mangers so far. Why would anyone take a management job with now AT&T.

@1csm - Yes, it is correct - 13+ years is 50% since 2015. You can find it on HR OneStop - Management Severance Plan.

Don't worry, HR has hired a bunch of contractors to help get us through these tough economic times. Also thoughts and prayers.

Does anyone know whether they will pay Cobra premium for 6 months (They had this incentive when they did the Voluntary retirement last Summer))? This is the only extra incentive I felt they had between FMP and Voluntary retirement!

I don’t want to sound mean but you’re remarkably uninformed for a manager that’s been around that long. Get on One Stop and start reading. BTW, it’s 15 years NCS for 50% severance (management), someone below is incorrect.

Anyone impacted will be given a chance to be on a lay-off call they host every week. Your supervisor will provide you the call information as they read from the HR script to break the news! On that call you can ask all the questions you want.

FYI - ask how long they’ve been hosting these calls! When I left they had been doing it every week for two years! Lot of quiet layoffs!!

Please do not leave your pension under at&t control as it belongs to them and they do not have to pay it out.

13+ years Management severence is 50% of salary at the time off payroll. If you get a raise effective in March (lol can still hope) , you’d get 50% of that amount as long as you weren’t off payroll before it took effect.

The benefit is you can finally sleep at night once you are off Ts payroll. You will no longer have to worry if you will be in the next surplus, if they are checking your VPN logins, if they are checking your ID building swipes or if you are in the right CZ location. You will be much healthier...that seems like a great benefit!

If you have a pension and will be retiring if they choose you, have it rolled over to an IRA! It is yours to do what you want. You would rollover a lump sum, so interest would be 2018 interest not 2019.

Why would anyone go in to management at T? Outside managers are the lowest paid people on the crew. There is zero job security, they are moved constantly. In 37 years at the same garage I had 16 different 1st lines. Work 10-12 for 8. On call weekends. Getting a-- chewing by deuces, etc.

I turned down 3 promotion offers-I just couldn't afford the pay cut nor the stress. At 4:30, I simply went home.

Serious question....

From the script “Surplus information session(s) will be delivered via online training course, no longer leaders-led”

Good luck getting any questions answered.

13 years here. Trying my best to ignore Monday until it comes. Not doing a great job of that.

Regardless how the axe falls Monday, put your list of questions together, call HR back and make them answer all of them to your satisfaction...every last one of them. If they give you an answer you didn’t expect, follow up if it inspires a new question, and don’t be shy about it. Ask until you’re satisfied. Record those Q & A’s with HR, you can bet they are doing the same.

If you catch the short end, you will be given info to join live Q & A meetings, over a period of weeks, to ask questions, or hear them being asked.....these meetings typically run 60-90 minutes and expect repetitiveness, a lot of people will be of the mind, "what do I do now? What is my Severance and how is it calculatedly?" Many questions will give you your answers from the hosts that conduct these open forums. I went through this Oct. 2016.

Record these Q & A’s, you may miss something but you can play it back. Like me, anyone will want to attend multiple Q & A’s cause on occasion a new question will pop up. I found that recording these sessions helped my focus, to help me shape my (as we like to say) next steps!

Good luck Grasshoppers.

I was told nicely to expect to be laid off sooner rather than later.
