They’re going to be sold off with wireline. The hopes for a buyout are hysterical.

I see it happen everyday. Guys showing up late and some go home during the day and also will leave the garage an hour early....everyday! For years!! Don’t tell me about gps and surveillance being a deterrent. These guys rape the company everyday and management turns a blind eye....don’t want to draw attention to the garage.

Trucks, cell phones and tablets all have gps. If i was smart enough to get by all vz surveillance capabilities and i was able to f-off all day, i would be in the wrong line of work....i should be a bank rober! The days of a tech not being where they are supposed to be, is long over. Vz monitors our every movement and punishments are at least 3 day suspension for the smallest infraction. They monitor where trucks park, how long you idle, and you better call your supervisor to get permission before you go to the co to use the bathroom! Google a video called "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TELEPHONE MAN", for a more realistic view of what a technician has to deal with

pink slips

The most useless group left in the company.

Wake up around 9am take the kids to school, send out some emails, home by 1pm to take a nap, maybe send out an email and open a ticket for a 3rd party to do work, then 3pm pick up the kid and go home

Listen here @1eqz, @1lbf, @1gyb, @jou, @nrm, on the off chance that you’re not the same dipshit individual, which is highly unlikely, here’s the 411.

I served in the U.S.A.F. Twice decorated for meritorious service in my enlistment. My country thought enough of me to decorate me twice in a 4 yrs. As a bargained for employee, I worked in an urban environment as a cable splicer, getting in the underground, setting up traffic protection, and successfully completing many projects. Ase’s, backbones, Srn’s. in a career that spanned 16 yrs. Then, I was promoted to a managers position. I work 10-12 hours a day, to ensure my metrics are met. I usually arrive at work at 530 a.m. and leave after a 10-12 hour day. I am surrounded by people just like me, and manage men and women just like me, that work tirelessly doing the same thing. I’m surrounded by people that have worked tirelessly and put in countless hours, under horrendous conditions, in all manner of abhorrent weather, on call 24/7. We care about restoration of a fiber outage, ensuring customers expectations are met. We know what we’re doing daily, do you? We are measure on cycle time, MTTR, overage cable, OTP. We collaborate, deliberate, work together to get things done. We are the backs the company is built on. We are fast, we are agile, and whatever other synonyms you naysayers would never think to assign us. We break our backs, but all you do is earn a paycheck off our toiling, and spew venom.

See, you already have an excuse. You guys always have an excuse. There wouldn’t be gps if it weren’t for slugs like you. But the criminals always find a way to beat the system. If I put forth a dozen instances where someone was doing something wrong, you would have an answer as to why it was being done. You know it’s true. You won’t admit it, but you know there are plenty of people who play these games daily.

I’ve seen it done. As long as they’re not parked in front of their home, they can say they were fixing open plant. Falsifying records is only the tip of the iceberg. You can disagree all you want, I’ve been around long enough to know how you guys play these games. The union protects the ones who don’t deserve a job here. There are plenty of people who want a good job and would put in a good days worth of work...not like the people now who feel entitled.

“They’ll never let you guys transfer to a borough near home, you’d guys would be parked around the corner from your house, sleeping and playing video games all day. You’ve proven again and again that you can’t be trusted. Hence the GPS.” - 1gyb

For someone so judgmental, you seem incapable of stringing together a cohesive insult. If the techs have GPS, as you agree that they do, how would that allow them to “... be parked around the corner from your house, sleeping and playing video games all day.”?

You sound six, jou.

As was said earlier, you’re a liar.

The trucks are equipped with GPS.

As for lunch, they have one unpaid hour to take lunch each day. If they choose to spend that hour at McDonald’s, how is that hurting you.

BTW, sitting in a McDonald’s for 8 hours is the tedious domain of lonely senior citizens, or ones lacking heating/AC.

They’ll never let you guys transfer to a borough near home, you’d guys would be parked around the corner from your house, sleeping and playing video games all day. You must not be too smart if you think the company is going to let the inmates run the prison. You’ve proven again and again that you can’t be trusted. Hence the GPS.

@nrm, that hole in the ground outside of McDonald’s, the one at the rear of the truck that’s parked there all day, that’s a manhole. Manholes contain cables. Cables need maintenance. Maintenance takes time, sometimes all day.

Trucks have GPS fool, so no one’s sitting in one place all day, unless there’s a business purpose.

Stop the hate-driven lying.

I bet you also see people in the business offices sitting at desks all day. No sh-- Shirlock. What your untrained eye refuses to see is people working.

The union won’t make any deals that lead to people leaving. They are all about the dues..not your retirement. They will keep you here until you reach social security age...maybe longer. They are a business and you are their income. No offer for you! Come back one year!

NYC people want permanent borough placement? Why, to be closer to the McDonald’s I always see you guys parked at all day?

@jjm, @enc (is that you?) is under the delusional belief that an offer could conceivably be offered to specifically “copper field techs only”, falling hook, line, and sinker for a serving of troll offered by the ID @wuj.

Therein lay my bridge comment.

@wuj

Why would the union limit the buyout only to copper field techs? Why not include everyone? Only logical reason I can think of is to get rid of the older workers in the field and replace them with new hires. Then the union wouldn’t lose any dues....but a deal would have to be made between the union and company to hire a new tech for everyone’s that leaves.

@pkk, my guess is, if there’s a sufficient offer that offsets the financial beating most of us have taken recently, there will be interest.

For those remaining, overtime is going to be plentiful, perhaps more plentiful than some might want (don’t misss the kids growing ip).

I think you’re in a good place.

Good luck, God bless, peace.

I feel this is one of safest positions which is why it’s rare they offer a package for us. It’s been almost 8 years since they offered us a package. I know you’re new, I hope you’re part of the union as they have helped us all in my 20 years of tenure and those before me.
