Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Collaboration is a joke. Most of us forced back haven't had 1 face 2 face meeting. If I am going to spend all day on conference calls, it's going to be in the safe, warm clean environment of my own home, and with a clean bathroom.

my manager doesn't care either but he, like others are placating the Dallas boys. He has no answer either if VPN is a cost to the company.

Sorry, but it's supposition at best to guess why WFH is no longer all the rage. The "why" doesn't matter, however; only that you have to do what T wants. Nothing changes that. History will reveal the real reason.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. It was to get rid of older folks or those near retirement. As well as use the distance from a collaboration place to get rid of you. However as this continues you'll see an exodus of the best and brightest young employees. Even without the surplus they know they can get a higher salary elsewhere and telecommuting was a mayor plus for retention.

@1ygm -- don't blame the AVPs or even most of the VPs...my AVP has told us on many occassions that he thinks the WFH crisis is rediculous and that he could care less where we work from as long are we are getting our work done and we are but that his hand is being forced. The SVPs and Presidents are drowning in the kool aide and JD is the patient zero of this scenario.

I started wfh because no one else in my location was in my work group. The ways I had to communicate were the same whether I went to the office or worked at home. Eventually I got VP approved TW status. I go to office when there is a reason to — like needing to use the telepresence room. if the company wants me to go to the office every day I will, as was clear when I signed the agreement, the company does have the right to terminate it.

It has nothing to do with where you work. Please accept this. It is just another way for the company to get rid of people. They want to make working conditions so miserable that you will leave. It’s that simple really. When you work for a real dirtbag outfit like T, they employ dirty tricks like this. Don’t take it personally. It’s business on their end. Just keep smiling. Do the minimum. Collect the checks. And wait for a package. Put your heart and soul elsewhere. Divorce yourself mentally and emotionally from all of this. Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgement.

This company is not poor. Look at all the money being spent on frivolous things. Like the horrible remake of "Insider". All of the money spent on "hype media". Telecommuting was a "perk" to recruit and retain talent. Our technologies formed the foundation of connecting people. The issue is that our AVPs, SVPs, VPs are not prepared to handle this situation. They need to go in order to right this ship.

No matter where one works or sits, in an office, a home office or where ever it's evident t has hit the iceberg & is sinking.

The madness was people believing that WFH was a constitutional right for the duration of their career. Gentleman I know actually had a portion of his house redesigned for a study/workplace. Planned to work 10 more years and never see a AT&T building again unless a big shot came into town for a group meeting.

The madness was letting people telecommute in the first place. How can you look at the company's atrocious performance over the last three years and think that being stellar at your assigned tasks was doing much good for the company?!? Are the remote workers that far removed from the general sense that ATT is failing? Maybe you don't see it because you're not here.

The workplaces are crowded and dirty because ATT cannot afford to do better. Half the company's dress cash flow goes to pay dividend, another 30% to pay debt, leaves very little left for capital improvements. We are slowly entering crisis mode, and things have to change.

This is what I learned in 10 years, company hires some good folks and pay them more than 250K a year to come up with ideas to fix us, the process and what ever, at the beginning they do a good job, but naturally after a while there is nothing else to do, BUT they still have to justify their crazy salary so they start coming up with St...pid stuff, my boss been saying that everything goes in circles and it’s always been this way since BellSouth and everything he predicted the last two years happened. Anyway I am done on 3/29 hopefully something better is waiting for me

Collaboration zones is just blame rolling down hill. When things aren't going as planned it's never executives fault.

It must be those pesky work form home people who are on conference calls from 7-6 while trying to produce company value in rare moments of downtime.

I work at a call center and all of the sudden telecommuters being forced to come at a collaboration zone made their way onto our floor, just looking for an empty desk. Management sure did kick them out. The super small collaboration zone downstairs is packed, you don’t make it in by 7am your better go to the next zone 20 miles away, lol
