T's Return on Assets is 3.57%; Verizon 6.43%; T-Mobile 4.75%. Employees have been doing all the right things. If they've been working on the wrong projects, resulting in this poor ROA, then that's leadership's error. They should own up to that.

The old AT&T did a lot of actual research and design and converting that work into innovative products and technologies that we take for granted today.

The problem is that success can cause companies to unlearn the habits that made them successful in the first place so they become more interested in protecting their revenue streams than innovating and competing.

Look at how proud we are at having disrupted Google Fiber and other various municipal broadband efforts to prevent competition from coming into under served areas because we don't feel like we are quite done with milking that cow. We didn't disrupt them by out building or out serving the (potential) customers in that area we did it with lobbying and lawsuits.

T never was and never will be an innovative company. Randy and the Johns are mere puppets with Wall Street up their a$$es telling them what to do and say.

5g isn't even proven to be that safe to humans so I wouldn't get my hopes up on that. although if you can buy the government you can shove anything down the citizen's throat.

go out and make the company money. lol yeah they didn't teach me that in computer science school. I guess I have to go to the nano degrees to learn how to make the company money.

man the more they talk the more they just sound lost. do they even know who they are anymore besides a wireless company? I think they should probably just get out of everything except the wireless business and just be happy with those insane profits. I have advised a few folks with computer science degrees to stay clear of att. they don't care about being human anymore.

Even 5G is a pipe dream. Given the propagation characteristics of mm wave it is not the panacea they make it out to be. The high bandwidth character of 5G depends on mm wave. If you think they are going to invest in all the mini towers and fiber to connect them that mm wave demands, think again. It's great on paper but when it comes to cost and effective bandwidth after the bad S/N is taken into consideration AT&T will abandon this project just like all the streaming solutions and fiber to the home they have promised. This is a marketing company masquerading as a communications and entertainment company. Right now their solution to their inability to be first to deploy 5G is to put a 5G logo on the signal strength indicator. That's marketing not technology innovation.

The question should have been asked if more money is the goal then why are resources necessary to do that being systematically cut? And what are YOU doing specifically as a "leader" to get us the resources we need? Those are the kinds of questions they don't want asked. They will say otherwise but make no mistake, they do not want people asking questions. Only group think. That point got driven home in a recent staff meeting. We were told "we only want the right people".

Oh yeah, and also- one of those speakers went on about how the big companies fail all the time, for instance - “ just look at GE, it’s a shell of a company. “Not saying that’s going to happen to ATT, but it could if we aren’t careful. It happens to a lot of companies ”. Was that supposed to be motivating??

John’s try to make this company look “fresh,” it’s being managed like a 1950s dinosaur. Right out of the jack Welch school of management. Take a look at GE- see how well it worked out for them. There is nothing new cutting edge and innovative happening here outside of 5G- which I am certain management will manage to bungle.

It’s not up to the employees to make revenue for the company- it’s up to the execs to come up with a clear coherent STRATEGY! Right now- we have none- other than debt and pay too much for much for businesses on the tail end of their lifespan and out of our core competency. GET A CLUE!

Don't forget the guy who said consumers expect companies to take a stand on social issues, and AT&T agrees. But of course, can't take a stand on anything that might be offensive. Meanwhile, let's bribe (er, I mean pay a consulting fee) to Michael Cohen to score political favor - hopefully nobody finds out! Oh...oops - okay lets fire our lobbyist & come out strongly saying that we NEVER condone such behavior. Hopefully nobody will notice that we didn't 'take action' until it became public months after the fact. Oh, hey 'Our most valuable asset, you employees' - just want you to know that AT&T is serious about it's Core Values.

Everyone says the company needs to grow & pay down debt. The Big Brains in Big D have a solution fer ya' - Mass Layoffs! What better way to grow revenue than to reduce headcount? Growth by subtraction, it's the new math! Okay we know, it s---s...if only there were another way to pay down the debt, without hurting the company's ability to operate...if only. Hey - what about a temporary cut to the dividend? Randy & CO. think "NO WAY! OUR Motivation is to keep our 8-figure compensation packages going for as long as we can, and that is definitely NOT a way to keep the money coming." Kicking you aside makes them feel awful, you gotta take their word on that. But what else are they to do?

If people in the trenches are supposed to "make more money" for the corp, then what do directors and up do? Or for that matter, the leadership? Aren't they supposed to pick the direction and the true workers execute. Gee, we all must now be corporate leadership. Duh.
