Rapidly losing DirecTV subscribers- something needs to be done fast

$ 50 billion for DirecTV and we are losing subscribers left and right. One would argue that AT&T is in a transitional stage and that it’s all gonna work out once the media business is entirely in place, but I don’t agree. The media business is fast growing, the customers know what they want, and what they are willing to pay for the service. If you have bigger prices you have to have something that nobody else has, and that there is a high demand for it. The competitors are also not just sitting there and waiting, but they have their services set up and are growing as we speak. The leadership has to acknowledge that the amount of money spent is no guarantee and that nobody is waiting for AT&T to set up their media business. Something needs to be done fast or this can turn into a real disaster for the company.

The problem is that ATT has totally destroyed the DirecTv name by pushing it off and depending on it's content to sell itself. This folks is what a terrible marketing department can do to a business in a short time.

In order to compete in media you have to be very creative and move very fast. Being micromanaged by a bunch of old, slow moving telco executives who do not possess the ability to think creatively or independently will kill Time Warner Media.

This company only knows how to compete through buying out their competitors. Then they smother their newly acquired business to death with bureaucratic micromanagement.

I agree.

I think RS needs to split this company and its management into smaller parts.

He can complete the destruction of what's left of the Bell System and place a leader from media industry into that part of our company.

I think You have the situation exactly right. The media business moves super fast. By the time You achieve a target, the market has already moved on. Lead, anticipate, aim and fire or You will fall behind.

I think RS is handicapped relying on his telco experience to help him make decisions in media. He is constantly distracted while trying to kill-off one business while trying to build another one. That is hard for any one person to do. And of course, EXTREMELY risky. One must be successful in this situation or You have an absolute disaster on your hands.

What RS is trying to do is very very difficult for anyone to accomplish. Let's hope he is successful; otherwise, it is going to be very very bad for all of us including You.
