Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I have worked for AT&T for almost 30 years!

I have worked for AT&T for almost 30 years and the company has changed a lot. I find their 2020 video's worthless and they will not transform this company into a high-tech Silicon Valley company. I work in Silicon Valley and those video's are worthless. I think most 1st and 2nd levels have seen the writing on the wall and AT&T will get rid of a good percentage of us.

I find the job much more stressful since we are so busy with work and do it with fewer people. I do like my job and the company but they seem to be making things much more stressful for no reason. So, I understand if others are critical of the company because they do have good reason to be. I just hope those who are younger see the writing on the wall and prepare themselves. Us older people have a pension so it won't be as hard. I'm just shocked that it is so busy here and they lay people off and talk of layoffs all the time. We do the high-tech stuff and there aren't any contractors that do our job. Not sure how the customers will get service if they get rid of a lot of us.

the 2020 training videos are there so that at&t can release propaganda to the public that they are training their employees. we know the real truth.

I have always found that the at&t training videos are best viewed with the volume off and minimized, so that I can more efficiently surf Ebay on company time.

I dont know, ask TMObile employees. I dont know anyone there. It should be interesting to compare T with T-Mobile one how they treat their employees. I have not heard of any mass layoffs there. So.....

It's not just the 2020 videos that are worthless, but pretty much anything "at&t University" offers. Is there some kind of tax benefit to offering this "training"?

That's a serious question - it's all geared towards the lowest common denominator, I can't imagine who benefits from it other than the company by getting some kind of tax break.

The union is not perfect but imagine how bad the company would act if there was no union or if it did not have to pay union wages and benefits.

@eoq yea look how the Union protects people, seems to put targets on backs more than help. The Union likes the dues money however, oh yes.

Funny, 1b level is entry level independent contributor, the expendable workforce that this site it is all about, with obviously no Union protections, I feel sorry for ya, time and surplus will open YOUR eyes, mi little grasshoppers, lol

To ATT cheereleaders and management trolls, here is your homework, get some reading material to educate yourself about some of your views, the lack of humanity and fairness is common denominator from the corporate class at General Electric, SEARS, United Airlines, and now AT&T. Who lost? Retirees, employees, communities, and stock holders in this order, who won? The corporate class siphoned BILLIONS to their corporate class. But they alk Underestimated the power of social media., and that is why we are here!

In a hostile work environment, employees will be more likely to accept a voluntary separation offer. This is HR 101. Nobody leaves a job they like. With 4 weeks vacation plus personal days, good benefits, and a home near work location; why should I leave. I don't like how AT&T (SBC) CHANGED. I came happy and hard working-good work ethic. I try to not change. Mid management is the group that executes the directives. This is the level that creates the stress. And requiring 100% to take unpaid time (salaried) to watch 2020 training/videos when I have a 2019 retirement only adds to the stress. I do not want to be fired for cause.

"So it's shocking you have to work for your pay and they don't pay people to just sit around?"

Randy, don't you have anything better to do than attack the people who actually do the work in this company?

The problem is the work is being done in haste and quality is lower than ever. Customer outages are common place as a result. Testing is bare bones AT BEST!
