Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Where are all the jobs?

Everybody keeps saying that economy is booming, but where are all the jobs they keep talking about? I've been trying to leave this hellhole for a while now but I'm having zero luck in finding something else.

Can somebody please tell me where are all those better jobs hiding?

In my department we also have a lot of jobs going to the Philippines, Israel and Mexico. Our President is only concerned about the jobs in the coal mines, Not having Skilled technical resources should be considered a National Security issue.

Call Center Jobs have mostly gone to the Czechs , they speak English well and work cheap. The company actually had the nerve to send us a video of the happy people taking American jobs. Meanwhile Chicago 9 is a miserable hellhole . There is no diversity , all the managers are now black , and the few remaining caucasian reps have to defend themselves daily. Black reps are mentored and given opportunities , white reps are just tolerated. Its a negative boiler room working environment managed by hoods rats with cheap weaves speaking in ebonics ,walking around proclaiming they are divas while they find ways to blame you for other peoples mistakes or just make things up to suit their agendas. They have no training as managers or in labor law , don't know how to manage just terrorize. As a rep you are belittled , berated and treated as though you should apologize for being white. The new center manager promised to make it a better workplace but it turns out he now participates in the racism. While everyone else is working OT like crazy , his favorites are regularly offline joking around and doing nothing that involves business. HR calls and asks reps questions but only to protect the company. They do nothing to solve the problems. The COBC is just words on paper , not real life.

Do you realize that a vast majority of these foreign workers have no moral God? They graduate from false universities overseas, come here and lie about their experience. Want a good tech job? Study the lingo, ask questions, develop your mirror speech, and go lie your face off in an interview. Pay someone to tailor your resume with false information. Then, secure that tech job. Stop waiting around for things to get better

meanwhile tons of foreign workers have bought up real estate in the suburbs of Dallas and work here, driving up the prices of houses and have taken over the technical jobs here

Step outside your comfort zone. I landed the same pay with pepsico doing maintenance. A far better company to work for. Cheaper benefits too!

Kansas City area - can't get enough people. And housing here is not that expensive. I think even an axe murderer can get a job. Only people that employers don't want are thieves and walking medical bills. 😉

At least here in Texas, many of the jobs being created are low-skilled, low-wage positions, or skilled entry-level positions that pay $15 an hour or thereabouts. There aren't a lot for skilled people with more than 5 years of experience. And zyx is right about AT&T skills. AT&T is behind other companies in many areas, including technology, project management and digital communications. So if you've spent most of your career with AT&T, you may have a hard time catching on someplace else.

Bix is absolutely correct, your AT&T experience/training is worth nothing. You must have real certifications.

You will not find much of a job with your AT&T skills which are not valued at smaller companies. You will need real skills with real education and certifications to back them up. I was surplused after 10 years. I actually fell behind in my networking and PBX skills I had before AT&T. AT&T may look good on your resume, but you better have some credentials. Start working on them while you can afford to. CCNA, TIA, NETWORK+, Microsoft, Cisco, VoIp platforms, and coding. That's your next job!

AT&T is hiring in Bratislava. That's where all the Linux system administrator and engineering jobs have gone. Hmmm, why Bratislava - cheap labor... There is not business there, just cheap labor.

Extremely hard to collaborate with Bratislava folks.. .English is a 2nd language.... Aside from the obvious difficulty of time zone, heavy accents, the nuances in communication make for A LOT of mistakes and rework. Project timelines suffer, but executives don't want to admit they screwed up sending the work there.... Oh well.
