Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Changes rolling out

This is what I was told today, most stores will lose their GM this week and they will share a GM with one or two other stores. Busier stores will keep the same setup they have now.

Commission is changing, it hasn’t been fully decided on whether stores will go to a team comp system or if they will go strictly non commission based. If non commission an hourly pay bump will occur.

Verizon wants to get rid of the top performers (aka the slammers) and the bottom performers. The company wants retail stores to be more like Apple when it comes to sales and customer service. Therefore, they want the average reps to stay on and be happy. They are happy making what they make now so they are expected not to push back on the changes. We already have the customers but now they want them to be happier at the stores.

Also heard a surprise that Hum is slowly going to be phased out over the next year or so as it has been losing a lot of money for Verizon. Hum was a Marni project and now that she is gone the Board of Directors wants it gone and off the books.

Finally, a hiring freeze will take effect in retail soon nationwide while they audit what the best staffing levels are for each store they want to keep open. This hiring freeze however, does not apply to the part time staff they want to hire in each store.

All I can say is get ready, a lot of changes coming really soon. Good luck,to everyone.

Hum being phased out? The number one thing every level b--ches about? He one product that gets slammed on people more than anything else?

Think it will be a cold day in hell before Hum is phased out

The business model of the company, be it 5/17 or later, it changing drastically. have a back up plan just in case. All areas differ as well so you may not even be affected.

In response to getting rid of top performers.

In my location we have a rep that places top five in market every month. This rep, even though they do 100 new every month AFTER chargebacks is a large amount of the stores costs. this rep takes home 4K plus every single month on current comp plan (not a trial comp plan). Even though this rep generates a lot of lines, the monthly cost Whether it be from manual discounting, OCCs, return rate, etc from this one rep equals everyone else in the entire store PLUS the nearest B store combined(BTW we are an A store and one of the busiest by door swings and by contracts generated in the SEM). This rep is an outlier however a lot of “successful” reps right now cost the company more to employ and pay to keep around from a operational standpoint than the business they generate in a single month.

Side note.

For those in retail Corp stores. Ask your GM tomorrow when the last time your individual store hit budget. NOT QUOTA AS A STORE, BUDGET. higher ups don’t care if you all are hitting a 1.2 as a store. They care about budget, and you normally don’t break budget as a store until you hit about 1.3/1.4 as a STORE.

If your store doesn’t hit budget, you have bottom 20% of market reps (more of them the worse off you are) then I would worry. Even if nothing happens 5/17. When things do happen they will be the ones looked at

I honestly think it would be better for everyone if the pay structure went non-commissioned based with bonuses for certain metrics

More stores are going to close, that is a given. The bottom performers will be forced out by new stringent coaching guidelines. Some new things were added in some territories today in the coaching portal about behaviors.

One territory is about to trial a new streamlined SMP process that will make it easier to fire reps who don’t do the behaviors.

I forgot to discuss SMB reps. I never heard if they are gone or not since but I had a director tell me that starting at some point they will not backfill an SMB rep that leaves. I heard a lot of them are leaving now that their comission structure has changed and most of them have lost a lot of money.

I fail to see the logic behind your statement saying Verizon is trying to get rid of the top and bottom performers by switching to team comp. I see why that would drive away a top performer. But how does that drive away a bottom performer?
