Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Union....

Wireless here. What benefits would my store get if we unionized? I've been with the company over 10 years and I'm a solutions specialist in an A store NE area. Quota is hardly obtainable, moral is low and my coworkers are concerned. The micromanaging from managers is insane.

Anyone have any insight about CWA? (There's about 5 people in my store interested in the union).

I would just like to say that I hope each and every one of you one day has the opportunity to see yourself heard.

Thank and good night.

Please don't mind @3nvs he/she is just bitter. Working at a job with no voice can lead one to use profanity, however it is likely he/she used it before the job as well.

@3nvs, why the vulgarity? It doesn't strengthen your argument any.

And, what does "to see yourself heard" mean?

@3nvs you do have to admit poster 2gmh put it succinctly. We are our own worst enemy.

2gmh...if it doesn't bother you, why write War and Peace...o, to see yourself heard. G.F.Y.

You wireless whiners are spineless. A union is not some magical entity that bestows you with good fortune. No union will be able to ever do a thing for you because a union requires solidarity and a strong will. You will always remain divided and envious of others in and outside of your work groups. You feel you are better educated and more capable. You feel unions are old fashioned, out of touch with the times and beneath you. A union can only work with the people in the represented work group. A meek, scared, feckless and lazy base will never get anywhere with any union. A united strong willed group can get a more than fair deal with their employer. The power that frontline wireless people could wield over this company is astounding. Imagine being able to shut down the whole system at once call centers, corporate stores, the eastern seaboard's wireline operation, etcetera. The company would listen then especially with a country at near full employment, but alas that day will never come and the company knows it.

No, you will moan about conditions, quit and work elsewhere (actually not a bad idea), delude yourself into some southern yahoo belief in the "right to work" nonsense, continue to jump through smaller and higher hoops with lesser payouts all the while bad mouthing those who have bargained for a better deal. A union like the teamsters would laugh at your weaknesses. The amount of work to get you ship shape is almost insurmountable. No it will only get worse for you. Eventually you will be like all the rest of the retail world overworked and underpaid at a job commoditized with near nil specialized skills.

I really wish you all the best but you are your own worst enemy. Your behavior use to bother me not anymore. You can wallow in the mess you have made of the place. It is no longer my fight. I can selfishly say that I got mine. The only reason I even read this sight is to find out about EISPs (I know half of what is posted is BS but you never know). I want to leave and am waiting to put the icing on the cake so to speak.

ps. This board here really is for wireline they have a wireless board on here too.

Can't hurt? How about a smaller paycheck while some teamsters leader gets richer from my dues. No, I don't think so.

Really want to f—k with the company. Call the Teamsters to organize. Can’t hurt.

I think it's too late now. Around 2000 was when the issue was critical for VZW to unionize and CWA/IBEW/etc made a concerted push to get you guys in but everyone was ingrained with thinking they were the company's elite, things were great, and they'd always stay that way because wireless would never see a plateau. Hindsight is 20/20 though. The wireline guys already saw your future which is what they'd gone through once long distance stopped being a hot commodity. Had VZW unionized with wireline at that critical juncture the whole union would be much stronger today and you wouldn't see all of these unreasonable quotas and layoffs. But no, it didn't happen and everyone is not as well off especially the VZW people.

Thanks for all the input. I started as customer service in store many years ago, got rid of the position when I moved down south, was forced into sales. (Of course 2 months later they brought cs back in stores). Transferred back up north (as rsr) then bam, rifs for ops, then bam again, rifs for ops. No managers were let go in my store which was a surprise. Half of them are useless and have no knowledge of systems and procedures. Just looking for some kind of input. There's being a sales rep, then there's selling with integrity. Slamming is something that's being praised but morally half the reps in my store can not. Thanks so much everyone. (Crossing our fingers they'll close our store early with the snow, but we're "essential employees" without the hazard pay).

Hey if you don’t mind having no voice and no say in your money thats all up to you. Its great you walked a picket line but it seems the very idea of why you did and why you Unionized has been lost upon you. Would your fellow workers that walked along with you agree with your statement?

@RhFOtYx-khc

Listen here.

I walked a Pickett line for 7 weeks.

Vzw retail work in a store it is are jobs to sell things and make money.

Things are not handed out it is up to people to go out and make there paper. Also it is a sales job unions do not work in a sales environment.

If that want to get rid of someone they will.

You guys were shut down nearly a year later not two months. The point still remains if more stores were unionized you would have more to bargain over. Just look at all the crap you guys are whining about here, half of it would be taken care of if majority were Union.

Go out and control your money? You have no control as its VZW that changes quotas and compensation constantly and they even are working against you by driving customers and sales online. VZW controls how much money you make not you don’t forget that

I am a former cwa rep who used to work in the Everett ma we won a contract than not less than 2 months from coming back from the strike in 2016 the company shut Everett down. I am in non union what i can tell you from my point of you is that the union does not do anything we are commissioned based sales reps it is up to you to go out and make your own money

Paying out 150% on the quarterly incentive? I wish that was the case. Reality was a bit more harsh when it came to the quarterly incentives.

Yeah, they turned the quarterly incentive into base pay when the incentive was paying out at like 150%. Then they collected dues on the base pay. Who won there, not the employees.

Why don’t you ask an AT&T rep how much they're making since they’re unionized and decide if a union is what you want.

they got 2 grand added to base pay , which was the base of the quarterly cei bonus when it existed, the non union reps got 3 grand add to base pay

I can tell you from first hand experience as well that even though they dont have control over quota you gotta look at the big picture. There's only a handful of stores unionized so its hard to get a contract with alot to bargain over. Now that doesn't make them as useless as the nitwit who originally post makes it seem as they still have bargaining power when it comes to discipline or corrective action which is a HUGE plus. From the contract they won with the few unionized stores they did have a potential quarterly bonus turned into guarantee pay increase which certainly helped with the quota issues. If you had majority of stores unionized in VZW yeah you would have many more benefits and bargaining power over more issues that effect the store but its baby steps.

As it is right now without a Union you have no voice, no input, no job security and no bargaining power over anything. Considering how much VZW takes advantage of its frontline workers you really would be better off unionized.

Thank you for your feedback! Sounds plausible, unfortunately.

I can tell you for a fact, from first hand experience, that the union, CWA, did absolutely nothing to impact quotas and has no impact over management. All that happened is that dues get taken out of each check. They make sure to get paid, even when someone gets no commission check. Stay away.
