Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

I can’t imagine that you will get paid your PTO days for next year because actually they front us all those hours for the year and we aren’t working any of the new fiscal year. I looked that up in the policy last week and it’s states an example to reference.

Even market HR can not answer if we also get paid for our PTO days at the end of the 60 day period. They are ours and we earned them. They are all available on Feb 1st. Are they cheating out of that benefit or are they going to pay us what we have earned?

I was so shocked that I didn't hear if I am supposed to stay for the 60 days or have to leave by end of next week.

I was pretty sure I’d be green and I was. Got a 5% raise as well. But, the two other co’s both hard working long term guys were terminated. I just feel I don’t want to work for WM any more. I was waiting on this news before I started looking for a new job. It doesn’t seem that they were fair. Some really stty (kiss a ) COs made it and some really hard working talented were let go. Just know I don’t want to work here anymore!

Oh the favoritism is all over the place. Certain people in the same positions got to keep their jobs and others let go. Older people vs the young and it was all about "who you knew" Sam would never have allowed this. The culture is gone!!!!!

And just where are all these "ASM" roles going to come from???????

Okay, so everyone knows what happens for "Green" and would seem "Yellow" as well. No posts that specifically lay out for "Red" yet. Anyone have that info?

Husband kept his Co position and got a raise. Other 2 in his store were terminated. They said those left in Co positions will be fast tracked to Store Manager positions. Lots and lots of worrying and many sleepless nights. Lots and lots of prayers also! Prayers and good vibes to everyone else waiting and to everyone who has to figure out where to go from here.

What does everyone know in regards to Complex and Academy stores? Is it all due to sales volume or do these stores qualify regardless?

Does anyone know how unemployment works? Would we qualify for it with the severance?

Got a yellow offer, store manager was upset about losing me. Really pushed for me to apply for the regional req.

This is my reward for getting promoted too fast, I have no seniority, having only been with the company 6 years, CO for almost 3 years lol.

I’ll take this energy and loyalty elsewhere.

I won’t shop at Walmart in the future either.

Also, to correct the other post below, if you opt in to the Regional ASM pool and are not selected you still are eligible for the severance. It was in one of the FAQ’s they went over in the meeting.

Good luck everybody still waiting for their meeting!

Wow! Why would you even think about staying as an Asst Mgr after going through, what you have been through the last 2 weeks and it to come to this outcome?

Do you really trust Walmart to take care of you?

It amazes me at the level of dedication that some folks have. Walmart should want to keep people like that, but it is very clear that they do not value you. Get the Hell out with some money while you can!

Why does Walmart have to know about you having a job?

To Everyone offered to Opt in for the Regional Hiring Pool!

  • If you were offered to put in for the Regional Hiring Pool for Assistant Managers, really take the time and weigh your options.

  • IF YOU OPT IN THEN YOU LOSE YOUR SEVERANCE OPTION!! Walmart is banking on several not getting an Assistant Manager Position and losing severance, through this process.

  • Cash in hand goes alot further than, a sorry you did not get a position.

Think about what may happen in the future as well. Things are about to change dramatically on expectations and accountability in the stores and with the Store Managers.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go after something else that will be there in the future.

Repost - @LzIZ43x-5Ruvl

  • Work week 1 to ensure bonus. Then every one that wants to continue with company can apply for the open ASM spots. No guarantee that you will even get an interview and if selected they pick your store.

  • We get 60 days of pay and benefits and then can take severance package.

  • Can not go to hourly unless MHRM and MM approve.

  • My meeting lasted 10 min.

The worst part of this........ we were told that if we don’t get an ASM job and leave the company, we couldn’t reapply for any company job for 2 YEARS!!!! Associates who are fired and part from the company can apply at our store after 6 months. We are being treated worse than someone fired!!!

Regional Hiring Pool- You go in so they can see the candidates. Most of these position will be over PICK UP. You do not have to take the one offered to you and you would still qualify for the severance. You do not have to go anywhere in your region. The wording in the documentation is if applied and you accept.

Can you find a job elsewhere in the 60 days or do you have to wait for that to be up to get your severance? Do I have to look for a job within the company those 60 days or just choose to wait the 60 days and take severance

If you are in the Regional hiring pool for Asst Mgrs, you will have to go where offered. You do not get to pick.

If you are a red, your keys and radio will be taken and you will be asked to leave the store immediately. You will be paid until March 30th and then severance will kick in.

DO NOT MAKE ANY DECISIONS UNTIL AFTER JANUARY 31ST or it will affect your BONUS!!

Now that sounds worse. Who wants to be retained like that. Wouldn't you rather have a severance option

Post ID: @bzza+RfIyZGR

So just opened up the field management and hourly positions on the wire. It looks like they have opened it up by region. Does that mean that you apply to be an ASM for the region and you don’t get to have any choice of where you would want to go?

by

Post ID: @bgnh+RfIyZGR

If retained -

It is 50 mile radius from the Store you currently work in. If it is more than 50 miles you can apply for severance. You have up until the 29th to apply for the Regional hiring pool for an assistant manager position. If you do not want it you have until March 30 with pay to find another job.
