Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

So do you get paid for the 60 days before the severance?

My one on one was quick and heartless. Was offered to apply for assistant but would need to find and interview the position..... was also told could work till Feb 2nd as Co till the official drop date..... using my last bit of vacation time to not work and they will be paying out the bonus and also 5 days PTO if you have any left. The severance package is offered and you won’t get it till after the 60 days. Honestly I’m so happy right now. This company will never get another dollar from me. Too much of my time spent working like an animal....

So in case anyone was wondering if you are terminated today and you'd like to know if you would be receiving a bonus, pull up the "Incentive plan guidelines" on the Wire and read who does NOT receive a bonus. It clearly states that if you are terminated before Feb 1, you will NOT receive a bonus.

My opinion, that's ridiculous seeing how it's 5 damn days away from today's date. How fair is that to the co-mgr who put in all the hours til now to be told you won't get a bonus because of 5 days. People are going to get screwed today. The only thing I've gotten out of reading a lot of responses is the best thing to do is take your severance and run and never look back.

It's sad to see what this company has become.

As meetings happen this morning please keep this message board updated. Other boards are popping up and trying to disrupt the information. The latest copied some info but not all.

Good luck.

The only ones worried are the CO managers who aren't any good. Also, the ones who have been in role for years camping in the position not applying for store manager spots. t

Good Information - Fake News is everywhere!!

Repost from - @RqFNqSH-kbj

You guys need to know how Glassdoor operates - the majority of money they get is from sponsoring deals with companies - WM HR is in bed with them, we pay them to maintain our profile there just like we pay to LinkedIn to maintain WM LI over there - anyhow, all posts are moderated, good luck sneaking through anything that the censor does not like.

So, when reading things on GD you need to really read between the lines - so Good means eh, OK means bad, Awesome means good and so on.

Honestly, aside from this site you will not find a spot where you can read the real truth as they are in bed with CNBC and other media - as long as they are buying ads they are golden there - I am not going ALT on you here or pushing conspiracy theories - this is purely based on my observations (my wife was recently looking for a job in Oil and Gas and we were doing quite a bit of research on mid and top tier companies)...

I am not claiming that layoff dot com is the holy grail here but as we were researching me and my wife were balancing comments from friends, Glassdoor, layoff.com and reddit..

New Information!!

  • Meeting on Jan 24th, Store Managers were given the CoMgr final assignments and Company directed talking points.

Alot of favoritism played out in placement.

  • Discussions will happen with Store Manager and a visiting Store Manager tomorrow morning. Alot of Store Managers have already contacted their CoManagers and given them the information so that they are not blind sided in the discussion tomorrow with a visiting Store Manager. Especially those that have built a strong trust with their team.

  • If you are retained in a CoMgr position in same store or at a store less than 50 miles or greater than 50 miles from home, you will be given a 5% pay raise. If you are at Max you will be given a onetime lump sum payment for the 5%. This is coming from the savings on the others.

  • Make sure that you ask all questions at the time that you are in the meeting, this will be your only shot.

Received a notice from Wam-Mart home office today in the mail- it was my rights to COBRA coverage - so I quest that is my notice that I am being let go tomorrow . So not only did I have to wait two weeks to find out but then on the day before I learn my fate wal-mart digs it in deeper by sending out this notice of my COBRA rights. What a sad sad direction the company I helped to build is in. Everyone reading this that is a co needs to check your mail today and you already have your answer for tomorrow .

What really pisses me off they know we have to work until Jan 21 to get our bonuses . They did this tomorrow to keep us from receiving our hard earned money . They are taking advantage of of experience & knowledge and forcing us to lower paid positions . They know we will perform as co mangers but we will get paid as assistants . The conference Call was a joke . I found out details from the online post and media . Then they give us a a 4 page checklist to paint the walls detail clean and key in repairs by Friday . The same day they give us the news . Not to mention our evaluation need to be keyed in by Friday as morning as well . Sam Walton has to be rolling over in his grave with this tacky business structure . This company has lost its values . Sad - but true

According to what I have discovered, store managers met up to evaluate and rank their COs, and the decision of keeping will be based off the number the market needs and the top ones on the list.

Promote up to store manager, demote to ASM, or be canned are the three major options. Hourly should be an option as well.

As far as actual placement, it’s still up in the air to me. I would presume that the top CO gets first pick of the store they want to go to, and the next does as well, and so on until they are filled. If someone doesn’t want to relocate, they get one of the other options and the next on the list gets the option to relocate and fill.

I have been applying for Co-Manager positions for the last 11 years. I’ve had several interviews, been denied for all kinds of reasons. I think that me not getting a position was God watching over me. To all of the amazing Co-Managers out there who have worked hard and long hours, sacrificing time with your family to run a business that is going to stab you in the back.... thank you for your dedication! My store is set to loose 2 co-managers, we currently have 4 ouststanding people in the co-manager role. Whichever two we loose will impact this store tremendously. Good luck to everyone!

Got my meeting time for 9:30am. At least I'll know and be able to get my weekend started. No matter the outcome, each of you be blessed. God didn't bring you this far to leave you stranded. I'm excited for the future. I have nothing bad to say about Wal-Mart, the company has provided some amazing opportunities for me and my family. I'm prepared, ready to conquer my future.

I left last year when I heard they were going to do this. It was inevitable that is was going to happen. E commerce is where it is and I left to go to the competitor. I’m so much happier now. I will be my own boss soon. I agree if I was in this position with the last comment. F--- Walmart take the severance and run.

I have been with WM for 20+ years. I have been a SM and moved up to a MHRM role. We have always been concerned about our stores being a target for Union activity. Today the WM climate is different and I am far less concerned about the things outside our Company destroying us but greatly concerned that the things going on inside the company destroying us. Do not kid yourself! WM is self destructing. We are sitting by watching a great company - founded by a great man - slowly eroding to become the next retail failure. Time to look for a new job. I cannot and will not be part of the next restructuring casualties.

Is the timing of the meeting significant? Say do they terminate in the first meetings of the morning? Or do they offer first and let go at the end of the day?

Walmart saying 3,500 number is not correct

I've been trying to find some media coverage of what happened yesterday to no avail, but I did run into this article posted last night that says Walmart denied 3,500 positions were being eliminated. I thought 3,500 was the correct number, so I guess it's at leas a little comforting to know that it will be fewer people without a job after this is done.

What’s terrabile is when you have built a strong foundation with the company, move across the country, have additions to the family...then a slap in the face. Not knowing if you can provide or even have medical insurance. All the time we put in and this is what we get back. And we continue to wait.....What a nightmare, now what??

No severance if you turn down a position. Accept the position and look for a new job that works for your situation. Not ideal but at least you have income coming in.
