Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

To the displaced CO’s considering as ASM position through Regional Selection: There is a new posting/ thread on this site about changes coming down for hourly supervisors and ASMs. If correct, not sure if the cos in ASM will be re-banded or affected. Would be nice to have this info before accepting another position with Walmart..........

You will keep all of your stock that you purchased and the 15% Walmart matched. You will also keep all of your 401k and Walmart matched money. If you were employed during the profit sharing years it takes 6 years to be fully vested.

Vesting

The vested percentage of your accounts is the portion you may withdraw if you leave the company. All amounts in your 401(k) account are 100 percent vested immediately. Effective Feb. 1, 2011, you will also always be 100 percent vested in the money Walmart contributes to your Company Matching Account.

To all the haters, you should save your time and try to retain what’s left of your dignity and let those of us talk that are actually being effected by this. It’s not your concern and quite frankly when what we are going through is difficult enough with the situation in itself and how poorly it has been handled.

Many of us being eliminated have worked their way up from the bottom and had every intention of continuing our journey to the next level. I personally have been with the company for 18 years, working my way up through hourly and salaried positions proving myself in each one to get to the next level. I have always done my job to the best of my ability, got nothing but good reviews and have never once been coached in my entire career. Yet there are co’s that are being retained that don’t have the knowledge, don’t have the experience, have had terrible evals and been coached multiple times being retained! Because I wasn’t a favorite with my MM I am out. I had every intention on continuing to move up with the company in the next year, I’ve been in role for about 2 years now. I have been loyal to the company and spent so many long hours and holidays away from my children and my family...for what? Being treated in the fashion, being strung along for 2 weeks with no answer is cruel and stressful. After I have given up so much for this company it is nothing more then a slap in the face.

What I have been shown this last two weeks is the loyalty and dedication that I poured into this company was always a one way street. Walmart doesn’t care about their associates, they say in the call they want to handle this fair and consistently. They are speaking nothing but lies, they want to keep their friends, their buddies close and get rid of anyone that will speak out and have their own option. The next couple months are going to be difficult for many of us, when you have spent so long doing one thing and you have it ripped from underneath you it’s going to take a minute to pick yourself back up. That’s what I’m doing now, I’m picking myself up and I’m taking this whole situation as a blessing. I’m putting in applications and I’m going to interviews because I love my family more then anything and I’m not going to let this terrible situation ruin my wellbeing or my families well being. I feel sorry for the ones staying in role and the stores that are losing such great leadership and talent this coming week. I hope that the store managers that were so unprepared for questions and too busy to actually show some true compassion of concern understand what’s to come. Those co’s that are staying in role will have jobs created for them by the company removing store managers from role themselves in the near future, I hope they take this opportunity to get ahead of it all and prepare.

I myself look forward to having the next couple months to spend extra time with my spouse, my children and my family that I have spent so much time away from the last 18 years and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it. I’m no longer a full blue blood Walmart employee that gives everything for the better of the company. I’m taking the money offered and running with it, there is no bright future ahead for those that choice the assistant path. I wish luck to everyone else that actually understands how this feels to be back stabbed to be treated like you were nothing. Don’t let this be a breaking point, its nothing more then a bump in the road. Good luck to all the other hard working co managers out there that just had the rug pulled out. Now pick yourself up and dust yourself off and know that it’s tough right now but it will get better soon! Lots of luck and love!

Just wait until the 129k Store Manager is forced to move up or move out. So these Co’s that were kept can move up and do the job for 95k and run 2 stores. The one thing they didn’t plan on was the Yellow Bands to take a walk after 60 Days.

Hey there mr Mensa lottery winner, the CO-manager position was not a “temporary developmental” position when I was hired.

There was no push to go to store manager within any time period. Maybe in the distant past, but not in the 6 years I worked here.

I was a CO for a little over 2 years, and was given a yellow, while a former store manager who stepped down for poor performance was retained...

Also, he was investigated for double cvp’ng some merchandise and then purchasing it. Store manager decided to give him a verbal warning.

Another CO in the market was retained with an active coaching, and never applying for store manager in the ten years they have been a CO.

The “buddy system” is alive and well at Walmart , and I am glad to be out of there.

Oh, and don’t worry, there some changes coming your way too mr hourly dept manager.

So run along and do your price changes while the adults are speaking.

Actually I’m not a Walmart Comanager. My fiancé was let go FYI. It’s all about politics not performance! As far as you being a MENSA person why didn’t you think of a career that actually took brains to do since you have lottery winnings to hold you over to actually go to school and use said “brain” you have? I actually have a Masters in Engineering which Is actually a job for a MENSA person. Anyone can work at Walmart. It takes a person that has motivation and desire to actually work and help people! My fiancé actually worked and helped all his associates instead of saying my associates do half my work! Shows why your still a department manager!

Y'all signed a NDA when you were hired...(non disclosure agreement). Remember initialling all that paperwork you were too dumb to stop and read at hiring/orientation????

Yeah..... also said employment not guaranteed for ANY reason..... keep waiting for that "class action" suit !

Performance termination are bogus.

A Comanager in my region was not performing as a Neighborhood Market Store Manager. Stepped down to Comanager and is on a third written and my region still kept him as a Comanager.

To make it even worse the good ole South demoted a lot of women and black people. Walmart culture has changed, appears they just want a company full of the "Good ole boys".

I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit because I will definitely be aboard. I am over this company and feel so sorry for everyone affected. Look at it as a blessing, new and brighter things to come. I can say once I turn these keys in, I will not spend another dime with Walmart..,not one penny!

Ahhhhhh......found an underperformer! Yes, I did win lottery....no being a door greeter I would not have the freedom to roam and have sales associate do half my work.... remember, I'm not a narrow thinker like you! Yes, my opinion is solicited because this is a open forum website so instead of wasting time on an intellectual match with a MENSA person like me that you will never win go to your unemployment office now and find a job Mr/Mrs/Miss red band!

If "said people" staked their livelihood in their work they would not be on this forum and gainfully employed today!

Red = development needed

Yellow= solid performance

Green= role model

Raise was in leiu of annual review and independent of the slackers getting pink slipped!

Yellow and Green got what they should have received a long time ago! Hope sitting in the office and extended breaks & lunches and "delegating" from walkie were worth it to you.........

1 Your a low life piece of s***. Nobody asked for your opinion! I call bull crap on said lottery winnings. If you won why not just be a door greeter to keep you busy????

2 NOBODY asked for your hateful opinion. These are people we are talking about that staked their livelihood on Walmart and were treated like sh--!

If you don’t have anything good to say than don’t say it at all! Get your butt off this website Mr/Ms. “Fake lottery winner” department manager.

You all are friggin losers if you've been CO's for 2 & 3 years or more......it was a journey and not destination position to begin with! Can't run a store or successfully beat out other candidates after years of training? Anyone over 1 year should have been red banded!!!!!!

NO! I'm not in management or home office which most theorists will say...... I'm a hardware Dept Mgr for years and work here for benefits after winning a modest amount of money on the lottery and just not the average dumb--s or narrow thinker you all are! P.S. good luck with the " I'll never shop at Walmart again...". You will someday, somewhere out of convenience.......

I was offered a Co position in my current store. I have not yet accepted the job, and was wondering if anyone had clarification on whether i would qualify for the severance option? The only option mentioned by my SM was the 60 days pay. I didn't pry too much for fear of being bkack balled. Thoughts?

Why work for a company that knew you were being let go had you work two weeks .We

A offer but not good enough to stay a co apply to a asm .They decided. You were not good enough to be promoted to store manager we will let you apply for a asm job and still might say no .

Take your money. and leave the co. I heard that who stayed got a 5 percent increase. have no loyalty. Why do you want to work for them they help the decision along. To get you gone .Start over.

I was offered a CoMgr positiin in another store. I do not remember them saying anything about severance being an option. If so i would have taken the severance over the store i am being sent to. I am greatful for the position. And do not wish discuss the specifics.

Post ID: @clbv+RfIyZGR

If you Opt in the regional hiring pool you DO NOT lose your severance. That is fake news. You can opt in and even turn down an offer if you chose not to relocate and still get your severance. The prior posting is not correct.

Post ID: @cswz+RfIyZGR

Their logic and choices were insane. They kept a co that was in a store for 3 years and the store lost 5 million a years for 3 years. They let go 5 cos that were in stores profiting over 10 mill each. Looks like they like poor decissions and loosing money.

Post ID: @cuip+RfIyZGR

Why wouldn’t they just do this over an extended period of time? Just not replace cos as they leave or get promoted. It could have easily been done over a six month period in most markets.

Anyone have any idea if they are planning this with assistants too? If they are why would anyone want to stay? Probably best to take the severance and find something where the dedication is appreciated. WM certainly doesn't appreciate any of us

I would recommend you get clarification from your market teams. If you apply for ASM role you do not lose severance eligibility. If you accept ASM job than you do. Additionally, the reality is there are significantly less CO roles now. Some people are displaced but have options.

As you guys write here - here are some tips, I've been on this site for about a year now.

Each post has an ID, it's in the footer of the message it starts with an @ sign, it's followed with by 7 random characters

Each post can have a reply, reply has an ID which is three or for random characters.

For example, this whole thread is titled "Co Manager Update" and it has this Post ID: @RfIyZGR - if you copy paste it it'll link to the whole thread.

The reply that's below mine has this ID: bcwv if you put an @ sign in front of it you can link to it so you get @bcwv

You can also list the whole thing (which has post id and reply id) and link it this way - for example ---

@RfIyZGR-bcwv

You can use these links on any thread and on any company (e..g, you can put WM links on Sam's)

Also, if you start and end a word with two stars (e.g., ) you will make it bold **

If you start a line with a minus, you'll make it as a bullet:

  • just like this

if you start a line with > you will quote text :

just like this

I hope this helps...

You do not have to stay in your facility after today. You will be a co til Feb 2nd but do not have to go to work unless you want too. After Feb 2, you will be paid 60 days to look for something else. You still do not have to be in your facility. After March 30 you will receive your severance if you choose to part ways.

I told my manager to use my PTO for the remaining days that I would not work till Feb 2. Lucky for me he denied my usage of the two weeks I had left so I got to use them for this last week and get the rest Paid to me. I’m so happy I’m getting a severance to leave this company. Will never shop at Walmart again. Good Luck to everyone else!

Did anyone sign a non disclosure statement on this? If not then why can't you talk with your associates? This sounds like the Nazi's have taken back over. Lawyers kill this if a non disclosure agreement wasn't signed. As long as everything is civil with this it should not be a problem.

The real worry is work place disruption.
