Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Important information about discussing raises!

I don't have information about pay raises or new rates for different departments. But with all this coming it's important to let people know that if management tells you that you're not allowed to discuss pay with other associates they're breaking the law! Since 1935 we've been allowed to discuss our pay rates with fellow employees regardless of whether we're in a union or anything else. But every year when raises come around management tries to lie and tell you that you can't talk about it with anyone.

But here's the thing: Under a nearly 80-year-old federal labor law, employees already can talk about their salaries at work, and employers are generally prohibited from imposing "pay secrecy" policies, whether or not they do business with the federal government.

What job codes were raised to higher pay levels?

Lift drivers aren’t getting anything other than the 2%. Not sure where that bull is coming from. Fresh gets 2% and IF your job code changed to a HIGHER level you get enough to bring you up to the minimum for that job level. If you are above that amount after your raise, you do not get anything additional. People are just on here trying to start up drama.

Ok so you all are saying you got more than 2% and this is anonymous. Give me some details....job, pay rate and raise. I’m calling bs. I have been handling the pay sheets for the last week and I’m thinking you’re bad at math.

I am going to leave this posted anonymously because giving legal advice in forums is frowned upon, but trust me - although a really poor practice, don't just ignore the direction about not discussion pay and assume that you are going to be safe.

"The law" in this case is the National Labor Relations Act which frowns upon prohibitions like this because if employees couldn't talk, it would interfere with those who might want to join a union.

In general, telling employees who could join a union that they can't discuss pay could subject the company to legal problems, and anyone fired for doing so would probably have a good chance at getting their job back. However, for employees who are not union-eligible (generally managers in the retail setting) your could be out-of-luck unless there is a specific state law that protects you. Also, the argument can be made that even for hourly employees, if the context was bragging versus organizing, the employee could still be in trouble.

My advice - if there is a real benefits to discussion your pay (for example, you want to form a union), then go right ahead and take the risk . . . . but if you are just looking to find out what others got, don't take the risk.

It IS 2% acrossed the board unless you are getting more to bring you up to the minimum for your job code. There are changes in fresh but they get the same 2% as you! Stop making crap up!

If you got wayyyy more than 2%, it’s because you are being moved up to the new minimum for your job code.

They so focused on fresh that it’s f---ing ridiculous. Let’s keep giving fresh all the incentives and $. They acting like fresh is the only ones In the damn store that does anything. What about cashiers carts floor they buy more than fresh items. Here’s a food for thought maybe we should become a bakery only!

Fresh areas are getting paid more than 2% , produce is broken down to two dif pay tiers. If you drive a lift you get more ...... it is not 2% accross the board .

It's not that you CAN'T talk about wages - it's that you SHOULDN'T. Certain positions are getting a differential on top of the 2%. Discussing wages can create resentment among associates.
