Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

An end to the stupid rumors of El Segundo closing

Every now and then some idiot will chime in here about how all of the legacy DIRECTV folks out in LA will be required to move to Dallas in a year or so, or be eliminated. It's clearly bullspit from a troll, and now I have some proof.

I recently spoke to someone involved in determining office locations and the gist of the conversation was:

  1. The lease on the office buildings in El Segundo has just been extended (not something AT&T would do if they plan on evacuating the location)

  2. There are plans to relocate a significant number of Southern California employees to El Segundo within the next year

  3. AT&T plans on making El Segundo their West Coast HQ, much like Atlanta is on the East Coast.

  4. With the pending acquisition of TWC, having a permanent location in LA makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully this finally puts all those stupid LA is closing posts.

If by some miracle AT&T finds a buyer for the dying DTV business, El Segundo will be gone in a second. Wake up people, AT&T is trying to dump DTV if they could. Even Stinky realized the $tupid mistake he made by acquiring DTV. I know it is going to be hard for the hardworking DTV employees, but we live in a rapidly changing world and DBS is not the future - it is the past ...

Doesn't matter if LA stays or vanishes. AT&T is going to bring DirecTV down to the amateur U-Verse level and nothing is going to get in their way. Oh well, it was a good run while it lasted. BTW, it will be interesting to see how HBO,CNN & Warner Bros. employees react to its lame robotic corporate structure

AT&T doesn't like having employees in California because of the labor laws. They will keep what they need to do business, but they will move as many positions to overseas contractors or back to the mother ship as they can.

"Dallas is the main HQ for the entire operation. Atlanta is the entire Mobility/DL operation HQ."

And El Segundo is the entire Entertainment Group HQ. All these Texasholes out there who seem to get their jollies off the idea of ES closing seem so small and pitiful.

"Anyone who knows anything about the leasing situation knows that You can't base anything off of the lease term. "

Fixed

ive been around long enough to know its not going to make sense and plans will change. Source, just a careful observer.

Yup, the person making that claim was a loser, and truly envious of the El Segundo campus. Anyone who knows anything about the leasing situation knows that AT&T ain't going anywhere.

No one can clearly define what this company it is all about, among the 100 most innovative companies, our beloved AT&T came in 99th place, so what is all this innovation The CEO talks about?, it does not matter if te building closes or not, this company will give priority Leg T/ SBC employees, before Legacy B, Legacy DTV or anybody else for that matter matter

The Company has done some stupid sh-- in the past and extending the lease on a building doesn't mean anything as I'm sure there's an early termination clause. I've seen AT&T hire employees and 30 days later surplus/lay them off.

Keep believing that and it might come true. But think about what T pays there vs. Dallas.
