Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

ALL innovative work is done by other companies

A wake up call to ALL the people concerned about layoffs, we have not witness any of the implementations promised by senior management in order to keep the current employees jobs, the elusive, innovative, and creative 2020 initiatives are plan to be implemented and executed with external companies, AT&T is not your friend. It is not your champion, and despite the messaging in those HR emails, this company is not your family. it is a monolith with a singular goal: to make money for its shareholders, the costs/earnings algorithm that this company uses will very rarely consider feelings over math. Oftentimes, I have noticed Randall becoming so obsessed with those little words, "synergies, & earnings", those will decide it’s best to get rid of a lot of people without humanizing what-cutting back means for those who worked with them. Instead, they might say that they have “decided to engage in a strategic truncation of resources,” or some equally vague rubbish.

Chief Executive Officers and Vice Presidents and Marketing Directors and whoever the hell else sits pretty on the top rungs of any corporate ladder are not sitting there to stroke the egos of their employees, they’re there to make money. Making money can be a nasty business, but because unfortunateanecdotes are bad for reputation, corporations are mostly loathe to tell whole truths after they’ve engaged in nettlesome little activities like mass layoffs

Working in mobility is a joke. The last innovation was iPhone in 2007....

React to whatever VZW does is the only course this company sails. Sorriest leadership in the business.

AT&T Has Fooled The Press And Public Into Believing It's Building A Massive Fiber Network That barerly exists, A few years ago, AT&T realized something amazing: you don't have to build a cutting edge, fiber to the home broadband network, when it's relatively easy to fool the press and public into believing you're building a cutting edge, fiber to the home network. So as AT&T was actually busy reducing it's workforce and its fixed-line, are The cord cutters are driving the broadband expansion? ..they are pretty universally saying no to DSL when they have a choice, and AT&T investing heavily in adding capacity makes no sense, since there's no reason to believe that, in the long term, it won't be able to reverse the fortunes of its ISP business because there is every reason to believe that even with its purchase of DirecTV, pay television will continue its slow decline, and competition in their new markets to increase, with players that actually know what are they doing.

No way to dispute these metrics, AT&T's Randall Stephenson’s idiotic pursuit of T-Mobile with a Democratic Administration in power coming out of a job-crushing recession cost AT&T, and their share holders a minimum of $12.9 billion, no counting The DTV Debacle at 48B, add couple more B, to their DTV Mexican subsidiary write-off /loss after the adquisition, and the Venezuela write-off 1.2B, and now competing in Mexico with the Mexican version of AT&T in US, not looking good so far. He Made It Clear: He Bought DirecTV So It Doesn't Have To Upgrade Its Lagging network, At his current obscene salary of $26 million, he would need to work for free for the next 496 years to pay it back.

I am so blessed not to work for AT&T any longer. Things are so much better in my life. It's actually OK at my new employer to make fun of AT&T.

ATT has absolutely no desire to "create" anything new. Remember the Bell Labs? Gone.

The words used by the executives are just that, words. the only direction is to wireless and any group or Org that thinks they will survive without being in the wireless group is fooling themselves.

"decided to engage in a strategic truncation of resources,”

" "synergies, & earnings""

This phrase factory (btw, who comes up with this stuff) is innovative in a used car salesman type of way. Its slick. Its tricky. Its elaborate. Seems to me actually creating new stuff would be easier than making up wiz bang words to elude and evade MEANINGFUL WORK.

Companies must change to grow, but we are not growing in an innovative way, "just in size, and debt/profit ratios", and we know what this means for your job role, "This Strategic pivoting tends to mean that, without warning, the job you were doing last week is then forced to pivot or you’ll no longer be relevant , take note when it happens, it was all based on a budgetary level decision".

If you are a non competitive professional in today's Global technological market, my tip to you would be “prefer not” when asked to perform tasks, Prefer not to participate in the grotesque messaging of corporate speak, especially if you feel it is being angled against you. If that fails, you could prefer not to drink their Kool-Aid, if your company doesn’t care about you, why should you care about your company? Just make yourself accountable when you are out of the job, you were given enough time of what was to come.

Excellent points. The Robo call coalition that Randy has become the defacto leader off will be interesting. My prediction is Google does all the work and Randy takes all the credit.
