EWA wife here. My husband is currently assigned to a field position in the north, which means he has a front row seat in this circus. Strikers chanting in circles, jumping in front of company vehicles and claiming intent, mobile picketing, and field customers unsettled by the union's aggressive attempts at intimidation. He takes it all in stride as we pad our savings and investment accounts. Although, the spitting and threats truly disgust me!
At home, our friends and neighbors that exist outside the VZ fishbowl could care less about the strike since it doesn't affect them. They still buy VZ and are happy doing so. Honestly, unions aren't even worthy of a passing cocktail party comment. Those that have something to say about unions often recall their personal experiences, depicting laziness, entitlement and unprofessionalism. I have observed that to be true based on the flame wars on this board and YouTube videos. I would laugh at the absurdity of it all if it weren't for the fact that my family is now being thrown into the history books alongside the union. The difference is we (EWAs) are on polar opposite sides by chance, which quickly morphed into choice through conduct and economic incentive.
Quite frankly, I hope VZ succeeds in their long-term plan to bust the union. People that behave like animals during a grievance don't deserve respect, middle class jobs or opportunity because such behavior indicates an inability to perform much less manage. Respect is earned and should not be given to anyone regardless of socioeconomic standing.
BTW, scabs are former union that cross. Google it! It's management scum so get it right during your 'intimidation' exercises. Bring on the insults!
