Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is the end near?

May 20, June 30, July 13, August 1. All important dates. May 20- FINAL OFFER due. June 30- rumored date for replacement workers. July 13- 2 weeks after replacement workers & 90th day of strike. August 1- One year of expired contract. The union at this point will become weak.

Three things that can "offset" these dates:

  1. President appoints binding arbitrator.

  2. Govt orders union back via Taft Hartley Act

  3. Management & Union agree for membership to go back to work during negotiation

The Department of Labor announcement came out as I wrote this post. We have a mediator at the table. Yayyy!!

Please, everyone stay positive for an agreeable outcome & positive resolution. I hope the original thread didn't set people off the deep end. Hang tight - Union, management etc all want this over. Keep the faith.

After meeting in Washington with U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez Tuesday, management and union leaders involved in the Verizon labor dispute agreed to accept the assistance of federal mediator Allison Beck in ongoing contract negotiations. Discussions will continue in Washington under the auspices of the Labor Department.

An estimated 36,000 to 39,000 Verizon workers, members of the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, have been on strike since April 13.

All parties agreed not to make any public statements during the talks.
