Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

This is my story when surplused!

For those not impacted "yet"; communicate and state they are making selections fairly, just wait because your turn will come (or someone close to you will be impacted).

I was:

  • 20 year employee with degree and certifications.

  • I received "Exceed" MPP's 18 of my 20 years of service. Fully Meets on the other 2 years.

  • Received the Key Contributor Award every year.

  • Nominated and received Star Performer Award the last 2 years

  • Completed ALL of the 2020 training by January 2015. And when I say ALL I did well over 200 courses in a year and half.

WHY I busted my butt to finish ALL that 2020 training is because THEY said if you want to keep your job that is what you need to do.

Does not matter.

If you organization is impacted I will tell you how they will make the selection. They will carve the top 2-3 with seniority making good money (close to qualifying for retirement) and then they carve 2-3 at the bottom of seniority. Why do you think they do that? I will leave that conclusion up to you.

So if that is how you fall within your team or organization, I would be worried. Your direct manager has no involvement. I had a new Manager/Director for less then 6 months. Once your name is selected by HR, doesn't matter. There is nothing that your Manager, Director or ED can do.

So please understand why some people that have been surplused communicate and state you are only a number.

Because you are.

I didn't work in a call center. The environment was still toxic. It runs rampant throughout at&t. Senior management created it.

October 2015 they rerouted our calls and closed our center to make the announcement that the office was closing. My last day with the company was 10/30/2015 after 20 years of service. I do not regret taking severance and leaving. The environment in a call center is toxic and stressfull and I do not wish to work in one for ANY company in the future. The process of closing as well as length of time really depends on the region you are in and current contract.

I was surplussed and didn't realize just how toxic the environment was at at&t until I started a new job and seriously had to cleanse my thought process....took about 6 weeks to alter my thinking...purge the negative suspicious cover your butt thought process.

Without trust, conflict becomes politics,, our team motto "Do as little as you can and keep your opinions to yourself", and no one will notice you! thing I believe to be true, I want people to know that the most talented people in our team, 40% to be exact, the company did not value their hard work, AT&T's leadership is there for themselves....While most people value fair compensation and appreciation for their accomplishments, my coworkers received none, few leaders start out seeking only money, power, and prestige. Along the way, the rewards—bonus checks, newspaper articles, perks, and stock appreciation—fuel increasing desires for more just like oi our CEO on his buddies.

Employees’ success is not tied to the company’s success, AT'T's Failure to value talent, will be some other company gain, the top reason employees jump ship: Toxic work environment was first, followed by better compensation/benefits, and opportunity for advancement

Your surplus was decided by 2 factors, you had an incompetent manager,IR who ever signed your release had not idea who you were, both options your manager was at fault by omission

I agree with everything except for the fact these aren't always HR driven events. I know of one that was and one that wasn't. The latter was driven by director only with no input above or below.
