Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

A Special Place in Hell for EWAs

It's a place where you must go or risk termination. It is far from home, involves long shifts, and you rarely get a decent break. The harder you try to perform, the stronger the resentment and animosity toward you becomes, including family, co-workers, customers, and union. You must skulk about to avoid being seen / recognized. You're conscience gnaws at you constantly as you know you're negatively impacting fellow employees sacrificing for what they believe is just. Life for you is meaningless, as you're a small bandage covering a cancer and you know that your efforts are a fraud. You are on a Sisyphean labor, endless days for naught.

Sadly, your place in Hell remains post Strike. You sold your soul, sold out your peers, and must carry that weight and stigma forever. The Epitaph reads "stood for nothing, good for nothing, finally at peace".

@vbr instead of worrying about me on Sunday, I would suggest praying and asking forgiveness for yourself and your little union buddies. First for the disgusting, profane words that come out of your mouth on the picket lines. Second, for the pure greed in your hearts as you always seem to want something for nothing. Third, for covering the salary of the CEO. And finally, for being the most repugnant and disgusting form of union trash possible.

“@dyw- One of my group managers posts a job and we get +100 applicants.” All union dregs trying to climb out of the slime. Hoping and praying they didn’t look like total pinheads on their interview.

Seems that most EWA's value money above all, while us clueless workers value family, faith and integrity over the all mighty dollar. Then they spend their few waking hour disparaging those 5hat stand for their principles. That's ok, on Sunday you can ask for, but will not receive, forgiveness. I shall not judge, but will pray for you and ask for forgiveness of your transgressions. When we go back I will calmly tell you to call someone who cares.

How about this, EWAs...OP is a long term management employee, more than a decade as a Band 5. We threw you clown 6 and 7s into the fray because it's quick, easy, and there's little risk. What you don't see is band 4 and 5s doin that dirty work. Like it or not, 6 / 7s are by far the best the most easily replaceable gigs VZ has. Accountants, draftsmen, network engineers, supervisors, blah blah are less than a dime a dozen. One of my group managers posts a job and we get +100 applicants.

Why I write in support of the Union is that they STAND for something and sacrifice TOGETHER. You EWAs are pawns in our chess game.

Looks like the EWA group pretty much shut this thread down using intelligence and well stated thoughts. I'm sure the union guys are still standing around scratching each other's balls trying to figure out a response. Will be a long wait.......

Here's an interesting plot twist: EWAs become permanent replacements, with the Union folks fired. EWAs can apparently do the work as well or better and need no contract, so VZ wins. Since using EWAs is a permitted way to oust the union per NLRB, VZ wins again. The EWAs former jobs are eliminated as it been shown conclusively that their work can be re-distributed elsewhere, so VZ wins again. VZ becomes non-union and the EWAs work long shifts with no differential / OT (as is BAU for Mgt anyway), so VZ wins. VZ gains an all-Mgt workforce, sheds collective bargaining, and must only contend with market forces to shape its labor cost. Mgt benefits can be winnowed, salary increases pared, and staffing shrunk to just shy of breaking point. VZ checkmate

Question !

Who replaced you doing your job?

You are not my peer. I live in a world where I am judged on my ability to perform my job, and promoted based on the same. I don't lose promotions and have to schedule my vacation time around idiots who can't even tie their own shoes just because the union has managed to keep them on the job longer than me. I have no lingering doubts, and I could care fall about you and your opinion. I am proud of the job I am doing, and I hope crazy-as-f-Lowell crushes you.

Eew: very well said! Perfect response! Unfortunately, it will be lost on the union inbreds because it's logical and well stated. They can't read at that level or comprehend it lol

Roc-the money I earned belongs to me, or anyone else doing the job. You chose not to do it, so you forfeited your "right" to it. If you want the money, work for it like I have.

And, the only replaceable, dispensable job is yours. You were replaced by someone with zero experience and minimal training yet I've kept the pace and productivity at your level. What does that say about you and your job? I don't understand how you can't possibly understand how weak the unions position is.

But, I guess you're grasping at straws to find an insult that will rattle me. You failed. In fact, you only proved my point. You are replaceable. The position is a needed position for sure. But the fact remains, you aren't needed in it. It can be filled by just about anyone. People like you are a dime a dozen.

yes indeed, so proud to be Company duct tape! Vz's appreciation for your sacrifice will cool quicker than Yesterdays pizza. that money you "earned" actually belongs to a striker....do you take from the collection plate too? that money passed in front you but it was someone else's.

yes proud to have a regular job that you were easily pulled from, proud to be placed in a job you would never get otherwise, proud to be so dispensable

@OP- you couldn't be more wrong in your post. I've never, and will never, skulk around. I walk proudly through the lines every day knowing that I'm doing what I must do in order to provide for my family. There will never be an ounce of shame felt for putting my family above my own personal comfort.

Yes the hours are long and I miss my family. But this is temporary. I can handle it as long as I need to. Strength comes from above, and from within, and I'm more than capable of bearing the weight. It's actually been interesting and rewarding to learn the job and to understand in greater detail about part of the business I'm unfamiliar with.

Finally, I've not sold out anyone. You walked out. The shame is yours to shoulder, not mine. I'm proud of the work I'm doing, and I'm proud that my family sees that they mean more to me than anything and I'm willing to do whatever it takes for their security. My soul is very secure, and I can lay down each night with a clear conscious knowing I've done my best each day. When the strike is over, I will go back home and will either assume my previous role, or move on and find a new challenge. I can seek excellence here, or in a new company, but I'll always be moving forward and seeking excellence.

I wish you no ill-will, and hope that maybe the unions have learned a little humility during the strike, just as the EWA team has. Verizon isn't made up of just one job or group of people. It's made up of many different people, each with their own talents and expertise. In the end, we are all just people who love our families, and are doing what we think is best for them. Yes, our paths to that end may be different, but the destination is the same.

Awwww, thanks for your concern. My conscience is fine. Would rather be home, but the money is great, and I do know this will end for me. If you don't go back to work, the nightmare will never end for you. Take care of yourself...your Union certainly isn't taking care of you.

I'm the one smiling at you as I drive through your picket line every morning. My conscience is completely clear. The only reason I want you guys back is so I can go back to my BAU job that is actually challenging and requires using your brain. I look forward to the day private unions go extinct. At the rate you decline yearly and at the rate members are crossing this strike (almost 2k!) my dreams of your rightful demise should come to fruition sooner rather than later.

@rns- I for one, will NOT act as if nothing happened. I work in a position that impacts union work daily. I used to fight to keep unreasonable requests from landing in your lap.

Now that you guys decided to strike and put me in this position, when I get back to BAU, my job will be MUCH different. I won’t fight for anything that will make your lives easier.

How many more are there who think like me? How many will admit it? How many won't?

you reap what you sow.

Honestly, the self-loathing EWAs must endure as they grind out their forced labor must be dreadful. Strikers, please take a moment to consider their plight and to pray for their lost souls. EWAs, please take comfort in your sins, no matter how grievous, will be forgiven. In God We trust, all others pay cash.
