Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just some things to consider.

If you take another job outside the company while on strike the company can consider you resigned and terminate your employment. I don't know if Verizon does this.

All basing and name calling aside, for both sides, be safe, obey the laws, and good luck to everyone.

zkk, I'm sure the stockholders like hearing vz is "spending a lot of money on outside security" . More lost money.

Remember it works both ways. You will be recorded and fired. Company has spent a lot of money for outside security. One push of a button and it will be transmitted to security site. Not like last strike when you were all stupid enough to put it on YouTube. Give it a try.

Some of us like a challenge. Sitting at a desk gets old for anyone except the truly clueless who don't even know how to change their own lightbulbs. A lot of guys I work around used to or still do their own car repairs, home maintenance, etc. Yeah, dealing with the EWA assignments is different but it all boils down to trouble shooting and using your brain. And for @dyg, I witnessed plenty of idiotic behavior from those on the picket line last time around. Kind of makes you laugh to see grown people acting the way you teach your kids not to act.

Having troubleshot electronics, installed and maintained computer systems, and laser digital printing systems for 35 years prior to finishing my working career with 5 years service at Verizon in the FSC, I wish all you with EWA assignments best of luck in the field. I was a participant in corporate downsizing twice through the decades and was lucky enough to be hired by Verizon. My past experience made my job of helping Customers in the home much easier. With that said......No quick training course in a classroom can prepare you for what you are about to experience. You will be facing irate customers who don't know the difference between an AC power cord and a toothbrush, all the while screaming in your face to fix it, fix it! I can only imagine the filth and garbage you will be crawling through to troubleshoot wiring and splitter issues for pixilation and channel unavailable issues. Just think today your hands will be striking a keyboard and tomorrow you will be working above ground within a few feet of very high AC voltage or below ground in a manhole with an abundance of vermin droppings. In the old days techs became managers so they understood the work, however that is not the case today. Sad to report that most of the managers could not put on a headset and troubleshoot a FIOS problem. Legacy equipment troubles are one thing but throw in Quantum VMS-client issues........well best of luck! There will be no IHD to take irate calls and desk jockeys will have to know which end of a screwdriver to turn. Just thought I would mention a few things to "consider" I will remain a FIOS customer, so my challenge to you......keep this network up and running!!!!

Don't worry. There's always someone in every group who can't seem to control themselves and then there is trouble. At least this time around that person is not likely to remain employed here. We'll get through this.

I'll say this. I don't care if anyone goes out on strike. You guys have to do what you have to do. Don't friggin jump on people's cars when they are being forced to go in. There is no reason to act like animals. The low level managers don't get paid enough for that crap. Realistically we really don't get sh-- and we don't get overtime. If we get.forced to go in its just that were forced and it's "part of our jobs". All I'm trying.to do is keep food on my table for my family just like you. Let's not make each others lives hell.

They can not do that! YOu are on strike. Actually th company would prefer that you did. Maybe you won't come back. At least you won't be out on the picket line or mobile picketing.

where is that written? Does not sound correct. No clause was signed stating that when hired.
