Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are you guys walking or not?

I want to volunteer for a RIF but would love to get some extra walking away money. So are you goofballs going to strike or not? This is really getting lame. Why don't you guys and gals grow a pair and circumvent your union leadership - strike on your own. Who needs a bunch of rich, Cadillac driving puppet masters pulling, pulling YOUR strings and living off of your dues? Stand up for yourselves, and help pad my severance pay. Walk, run, skip, just go out already.

Why don't managers get a pension anymore..?

Is their Job too easy and so they didn't really deserve it anymore?

I could see that.

Dozens of posts BUT to answer the O/Ps question?

NO! THE UNION AND ITS HIGHLY OPINIONATED MEMBERS ARE NOT WALKING.

Talking? My god yes, it never stops. Walking? Nope, nada, nix, nein, no chance, nao, Niet and finally in classic good ol' American Union verbiage "phuck off a-hole."

rtg From what I've been hearing for the last year or so the company is eventually selling off all states to other companies and will eventually be just a wireless company. That is why they have been selling all of their real estate off. The central offices now are starting to close. Moving equipment into other offices starting in May. Don't underestimate Lowell. He knows exactly what he is doing.

The company only wants to deal in wireless. They don't need people for the landline. How many people in today's world still keep a landline phone. Not many.

...VZ is not like GM or Chrysler, bankrupt and asking for new labor contracts. VZ makes TONS of money, they simply invest poorly in business ventures, i.e terramark, AOL, GO Nowhere(oops i meant Go90)

it will be endless until one of the sides gives in, which i hope is the company....not like the workers make millions per year. i mean come on, most are just trying to have a decent middle/upper class life and raise their family. nobody on craft side is making what CEO/CFO makes.

gnk Going to the rally tomorrow to "Stand Up to Verizon"? I guess you know everything that's going on because you are the one negotiating for the Union. Good luck to you!

OK, then what are we doing. Final offer, bs, that's what they told you, and you probably believe them.

Agreed...let it play out. If I like what is offered and Union accepts, vote yes to ratification. If not...vote no. Some people act like they know everything. Truth is we get on here to fill time and act like we know something... When we are clueless.

ixf in case you didn't get the memo the company sent out an update on negotiations about 6 weeks ago and said that this was their final offer and these negotiations were not going to last forever. Maybe you should attend your union meetings and find out what's going on. Big rally in Manhattan tomorrow because IBEW told all its people the negotiations are still far apart.

You seem to know what's going on, why did the company give in on some things? Why don't they just say no more pensions? Obviously in your world we have zero leverage. In your world we would be at the final company offer, are we? Stop being a dope and let it play out, you know nothing.

Managers won't have to worry about doing your jobs. The union is too afraid to walk and will ultimately take whatever the company gives them. This nonsense about "we're going to strike" is comical. They know if they go out the company won't let them back. Let's see how good of a contract you get this time around. We'll still be hearing this in October. Mobilize, Mobilize, Mobilize!

What I find so entertaining about some of the anti union smut here is much fun it is to watch some of these managers try to trouble shoot. Now there in lies the fun. "But it wasn't like this in training"

90% of my garage has a Collage degree, and a good percentage believe it or not has continued on to a Masters degree. These numbers has to be in Human Resources if you don't believe me, but if you ask any tech, he most likely has a degree. Verizon hired well in the 90's and everyone hired with me was from collage. You must be relating your post to the 1970's phone guy. All those people are long since retired. Stop believing the crap you hear inside, and get the facts before you post.

There is very little chance of a strike.

The Union is scarred to death.

The only way the will strike, is if and when VZ changes there benefits.

Until, then no, they will keep the same contract they had before.

You would be surprised how many of us "slobs with no formal education" have college degrees or served in the military. As for the absent rate I find it hard to believe after being treated like an animal at such a horrible place then going in to sick filthy houses and working in ungodly weather that it is only 21% wow ! Guess union employees are more dedicated then you think and must be some tough cookies brother. The average person wouldnt last a week !!!!

@3mwp

I'm using voice to text so spare me the moaning with no punctuation. You hit every point exactly how it is I myself team from outside the company non-union environment and let me tell you the experience is eye-opening as a union employee I would relish in the fact that I had so much protection in the company eight in management have a little on me I literally can get fired and get brought back because I have my Union rep a.k.a. lawyer tried to defend him look at every option for how the company didn't give me training or the company get into this never on me or the as the employee get the company to company to company. As far as people calling out yeah they know they can find every loophole in the unions going to back him up no matter what even if they killed their own mother a have to stand with each other. As a for profit company if you experienced this every single day people calling out people taking advantage house yeah I don't want you guys going as well as management is frustrating trying to help people out we don't want help who just want to go in" try to do their job do you do same people bitch and moan saying that they want to Brighton to do better for customers to go look in the Mira you do better for the customer you get to the install on time you do what's right is it a bitching and moaning all the time . All bunch of hypocrites will let me take that back not everybody that works for Verizon that's a union member is like this and again I apologize if I offended anybody but it's is a small percentage of the union workers who are a complete bum is a mass majority of them want to do their job pride in their job and they do the job well but again you can't say anything to the persons l who is making you guys look bad because you would get in trouble and spankEd.

This is why wireless will never ever let that side of the business call union because a look at how long this has taken the union to get into the 21st-century and make these changes everybody's always so oh I don't want the new system oh no this is how we used to do it all when I had a rotary phone we didn't have to do all of this wireless we change and change and change so quickly to get with it
