Verizon in panic mode. Spending more than other wireless carriers on advertisements.

Verizon tops AT&T as month's top wireless ad spender

07:34 PM ET • VZ • Jason Aycock

With a hot holiday season ahead, Verizon (NYSE:VZ) has surpassed AT&T (NYSE:T) as the wireless industry's top advertising spender for November.

Of a total $189.3M placing TV commercials, Verizon spent about $1.2M more than AT&T, for about 21.1% of the total, FierceWireless/iSpot.tv say.

Those two were ahead of T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS). Meanwhile, Cricket Wireless, AT&T's prepaid brand, was the fourth-largest spender, putting big-four member Sprint (NYSE:S) in fifth place -- with about half of its spending going to its new half-off promotion.

@EQnHscw-ez! - they didn't save money by letting 15,000 people go - they took a 3 BILLION dollar hit getting rid of us - get your #'s straight, they paid me (and the other 14,999 people) a bunch of money to retire and I couldn't be happier about it!

If you are a fan of Pro or College football, every game has the Verizon footprint (advertising) all over it. Brought to you by Verizon, The Verizon Red zone, The Verizon Center in MD etc. etc. etc. Not really sure about other sports. The spending on advertising (even though it's geared to get consumers over to Verizon) is way out of line. VZ lays off thousands of workers for expense purposes and ships jobs overseas but yet salaries for execs is WACO big. And really, how many new consumers jump over to VZ or current VZ consumers buy additional products due to the massive advertising that is going on? Like other Corporations, VZ is sacrificing American workers for overseas lower paying workers. EXECs can take a bump down in salaries and still be happily seeing what is deposited into their bank accounts and advertising can be slowed down. It's not like the majority of folks don't know who VZ is what they offer as the majority of folks can get online and look at new offerings. And being a former VZ IT person (RIFd earlier this year) I can say that the overall quality is not up to snuff with what American worker provide as we feel stronger in delivering quality.

HUM is a knock off of a kickstarter campaign that some kids put together a couple years ago. The kids product is better and it works on WIFI. Go90 is another video app. like many others in the market. Panic..?? Hmmmmm... Verizon included its sale of three states in the last earnings report. What would have happened if vz had not had three states to sell off for $10 Billion and change. "Panic" is what is happening now and will happen next year. Shamooo is saying wireline negotiations are clipping his numbers now? The excuses that keep on pouring out of his mouth are laughable at the very best. RUN THE BUSINESS!! These clowns couldn't get a job anywhere else.

I actually saw a go90 tv add. What a waste of money as that app is already DOA.

I did not find anything existing about Go90. Neither my kids. I will be surprised if it makes any dent. My guess is it be another product like VZOnePhone, VDMS, VoiceWing, Digital Companion, Vz-RedBox. All such products are in VZ graveyard and most of the employees may not even aware they existed and we spent billions building these products.

I don't think its panic mode. They are making a huge advertising push to promote the new Go90 product.

You know that product that is geared toward the millennials. Because apparently the reason we aren't loyal to cable subscriptions is because we like taking snippets of video clips. I wish vz realized that we won't pay for cable tv products because we hate being ripped off and seeing oligopolies like VZ use their ownership of a utility to money grab.

It's 4th quarter. Not sure spending on advertisements in the 4th quarter is panic. And they have the dough, just look at how much they saved by letting 15,000 people go!
