Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What’s going on with all the “Business Execution Consultants” at Wells Fargo??

Why is Wells Fargo switching so many employee job titles over to Business Execution Consultants? They are all performing entirely different job duties with dramatically different levels of education and responsibility, and have extremely wide salary ranges - anywhere from $47K - $290K per year (per public sources). They were re-titled from disparate backgrounds: Administrative Assistants, Project Managers, Operations Managers, Compliance, Audit, IT, managers who lost their titles in Spans & Layers, etc

I don’t see this job title being used at any other company that I can find. It’s not like Wells Fargo is (legally) “ahead of the curve” on anything. At least 15% of the current job openings are for Business Execution Consultants.

Why bother to have job descriptions at all if they’re throwing so many employees in to one hodgepodge bucket?

They dream up complicated, nonsensical processes (effective immediately!) to make themselves seem important. Then, because the rollout of new processes reveals errors, missed crucial info, or the PP deck had typos and broken links, they have to start all over again. It is madness.

It was a way for people with completely different jobs to be smashed together in huge bands so you will be stuck for years in a 2% raise.

BEC is the new BSC?

BSC was a catch-all for IT job roles in non-IT or IT "adjacent" groups. It was a job role you could use to hire everything from an administrative assistant to a software engineer.

As a BEC, i agree that it's super frustrating. I can't tell what anyone does anymore.

This is the correct answer. There are a few other job titles that have already been announced that will be eliminated in the next 3 years or so. Scrum Master and Kanban Lead. These two titles exist now to try to get teams up and running in Agile. Once that is complete, the responsibilities of those two positions will be rolled into each team and the Scrum Master and Kanban Lead positions eliminated.

Not a good title to put on your resume.

Because it’s easier for HR to lay off one job title in one fell swoop.
