Except the training isn't for the people. It's for AI.
And these people won't get paid for training it. They'll do it for free with a suggestion of a reward that will never come.

Departing employees? Man did I misunderstand that when it was announced. I thought it was offered to us to make us more relevant to be able stay a little longer and be more submissive, I mean secure in our positions.
And it's not a fresh $70 million. It's added to the $20. Which gets it closer to the amount of Verizon's regulatory fines and class action lawsuit payouts over the last two years.
My friend was offered a job "upskilling" for the AI future. He legitimately thought this would be a protected support role where if an AI system had a problem he would be the solution that would fix it. Like an IT tech or engineer PMing the lines and responding to breakdowns.
He actually told that he, and everyone else who accepted the position, would log into a virtual training environment programmed to simulate all aspects of a normal work day. He would provide answers to questions and solutions to problems exactly as he would if they were real. The only difference between this and his actual career is that it is all simulated like a holodeck on star trek. But not fancy of course. Maybe more like a flight simulator or GTA....or the Sims.... You get it..
Oh... and during the entire time, AI would be watching, recording every action, reaction, reasoning, rationale and logic behind the decisions made, etc.
When he asked what would happen after AI reached a level of competency to the point that it could do match his actions and performance in the same simulations... He got a word salad with no clear answer.
Enjoy upskilling while those skills are relevant. Because it sounds like nothing more than a con to build the AI they can't build themselves.
And my guess is they are going to get an AI that is only as good as the people that asked or forced to be assimilated into it's collective.

Point black. Dan and the board are all a--holes. The c suite is basking in their glorious bonuses and profiting off of things their teams are actually working on. How do they look at themselves in the mirror every day? They are driving hard working employees out of jobs and livelihoods.

More proof he is an id--t. If you run VZ leadership including, Dan through any of the AI models, they all say He, and the most of the ED's are the ones who should be replaced with AI first, and foremost. But do what Dan says the AI modeling says, not what you see with your own eyes!!

Couldn't get employees to train his AI so now he wants the nation to do it under the guise that they are future proofing their jobs rather than being transparent that everything his AI learns will be offered to AI developers for a fee.
Still not seeing wireline upgrades and improvements in any of this or anywhere else for that matter.

Rather than using that money for internal employees to encourage training and retaining them this D-bag wants to train the whole world with AI skills. First keep your own house in order before telling the others how to do theirs.
