Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

The Question For All Comcast Employee

Layoffs. Reorgs. Another restructuring. Another leadership change. Another mass layoffs. Just cycle of constant anxiety...

NBCUniversal and Sky are being prepared for separation from Comcast. After years of telling everyone that owning the pipes and the content was the great strategic advantage, those pieces are heading toward separate companies. Splitting just like the Titanic when it sunk.

And that makes me curious about the people who are still here.

Why are you staying?

Is it because you honestly still believe Comcast has a great future?

Is it because you like your team and your manager, even if you don't like what's happening above you?

Are the pay and benefits simply too good to walk away from? [Highly doubt it]

Have you been here 10, 15 or 20 years and leaving feels like losing a piece of yourself or your identity?

Are you close enough to retirement that you're just trying to make it across the finish line?

Are you sitting on RSU, a bonus, pension benefits or some other financial reason that makes leaving now a bad decision? Like a golden handcuff?

Are you quietly waiting for a severance package?

Do you actually believe the split and the new leadership will turn things around? (If so, sell me on it. I'd love to be wrong.)

Or is it because you've been looking and honestly can't find anything else in this market?

Or is it just inertia, and leaving feels scarier than staying?

Just wondering as a former Comcast employee. Aren’t these NPS and YourVoice surveys just a facade designed to make you think your voice matters when, in reality, they don’t really care? I’m genuinely curious why people are choosing a life of constant anxiety and fear, being treated like children because of the RTO mandate and badge policy, while always having that constant feeling that you could be thrown away like a used pair of shoes? Why stay at a company that seems to be heading the way of Blockbuster, RadioShack, and Kodak... into the dustbin of history?

So what keeps YOU at Comcast?

I'm genuinely interested in hearing from the people who have made the conscious decision to stay.

Why haven't you left?

Over 20 years, I decide to leave to be in control. But it was a very hard decision. I took lower pay, I left bonus and RSU behind. The hardest part is my body of work, and the remaining people that I enjoyed working with. But it was just not worth it. If I had stayed I may have got a package, and if it was decent retired.

I was told by many they would never do that for me. The environment was getting more toxic and if i had to do one more report or PowerPoint so my director could take credit. You get the point. Not easy but every one has limits.

I have been interviewing since the beginning of the month. Definitely hold out for severance, negotiate the max, leave nothing on the table. Using layoffs as a money saver only shows the incompetence of the Comcast leadership. But also this job, does not give a damn about us so yea. Interview while you work, because if the 10-40 percent is true for the entire company that is multiple layers and entire teams. Do not simp to leadership, do your job, interview and leave. We don’t owe them SH-T.

@cb is the market bad or have you not looked yet but only heard that? Whether you stay or go, it does not hurt to look now and you shouldn’t wait for Comcast to force you to. Line up your Plan B now whether you stay or go, survive the layoff or not because another will come if not a buyout.

@OP “Are you close enough to retirement that you're just trying to make it across the finish line?”

Yes, this. It’s been a good career - now I just want peace… and a package to send me on my way after decades of service.

Because at this point, the financially prudent thing to do is hold out for severance while I look and hope the stars align so I can exit with a severance and a new job

20+ years here. You asked why we stay, so here's my answer.

Some of us legacies gave this company our 20s, our 30s, and our 40s because we believed in it.

Comcast started in 1963 with one small cable system in Mississippi and the Roberts family built it into a Philadelphia company that bought NBCUniversal and then Sky. We were told owning the pipes and the content together was the future. Some of us thought we could be the next Disney, and we were ready to do the integration work to try and make that real.

We stayed through reorgs, bad leaders, and survey after survey that went nowhere, because we believed that one day we could help change it. But the band leaders were kept in their positions too long, and we were never given a chance to rise up Some of us wanted to retire here. We have memories here. We had HOPE.

Now Versant is gone, NBCU and Sky are being spun off, and analysts are openly talking about what deals come next. Leadership says this isn't about a sale. But the people who knew exactly what was coming are the same people asking us to trust them again.

So why did we stay? Because we believed you. That was our loyalty. It should have been your responsibility to honor it.
