I enjoy the work and have no problem doing it 40+ hours /week. What is quickly driving me insane is spending hours in traffic every day to do the same job I know I can do the same, if not better, without the drive when all of your work is on a computer. Gas is too expensive and Dearborn/metro Detroit su-ks to commute in. On top of that, shame on Ford for making all of their employees come in 4 days for over a year now without proper seating and planning.

@cd you must be on "CRACK" or a brown noser!!!!! When COVID hit in March of 2020 it was senior management that stated the salaried folks would not RTO. That was the art van the furniture guy. Fast forward to september again senior management stated you can even move out of state provided you have team leader approval. They created this mess not the employees. yes there are pros and cons to it. But to make comments like RTO makes someone more productive is complete "BS". 99% of the people calling using webx. SO stop the BS...
@gv a 30 mile commute is likely still 45+ minute drive, maybe more depending on construction and weather. You’re getting at exactly my issue…
@fb No seriously, probably a few generations down to the grandkids because people will be reminiscing it. Opens Pandora’s box. Reminds me of during Covid when the cases went down, some places said no more masks, then positive cases went up for a few days, so they were mandated again… lol no one wore them correctly ever again, or people were more comfortable saying f-you if they were forced to arbitrarily.
@dx A 30 mile commute gives plenty of geographic residency options unless you don't drive. What's the big deal?
There is no doubt working from home spoiled the heck out of us. Costco at lunch, laundry during the day, other time consuming errands in between meetings .... Heck, I had the whole evening to family and myself. It's going to take a generation of workers to forget and stop being upset about it. oh well.

An important point many hardcore RTO Boomers miss: Ford HQ is in a very undesirable area compared to most company HQs. Most don’t want to live anywhere near Dearborn. A lot of companies requiring people to RTO are in cities that are far more desirable than Dearborn, MI so you (as an employee) have an option to move and live closer to work. That’s not really realistic for Metro-Detroit Ford employees. It’s partly why the traffic is so bad. People want to live away from Detroit/Dearborn etc. and sacrifice their commute for it. Is a happy medium so much to ask (2-3 days in office)?
I was part the the 2019 SRD. (I have since retired and so much happier.) The drive to and from the WHQ made me miserable. The morning drive from M-59 and Mound took about 35 minutes. Not bad. The afternoon/evening drive was ridiculous. Even leaving at 3:00 p.m. the drive home could take up to 90 minutes. Construction everywhere during the summer. Frequent multiple accidents on all freeways backing up and diverting traffic. An accident on the northbound Southfield Freeway made it a parking lot. Id--t drivers thinking they were the most important people on the road. As long as you are meeting your goals it shouldn't matter where you do your job from.
There is no denying that RTO the pastyear has significantly improved attendance metrics for employees. This directly translates to improved collaboration and work through-put.
Yeah, work life in SE MI is interesting once you put it into perspective. Travel east during rush hour on 696, it’ll take you 50-90+ minutes, go home west between the same 2 destinations depending on traffic, ~30 minutes. Drive on a local road with traffic, 60 minutes+, drive with low to no traffic, sometimes as low as ~20 minutes. Go into office, alright, work from home the next day, same exact day, just able to log on and log off earlier, saved gas money and time. I like driving too, but most of these drives you’re sitting in park, don’t get any of this time back on your life.

OP you're completely right, don't mind the inevitable shill posts that come from people that can't conceptualize that there are jobs that are done perfectly efficiently without being in an ancient moldy Ford office building (because not everyone gets to work in the nice new WHQ even if they wanted to).
It's been more than a year since forced hybrid RTO and I have yet to see a single shred of evidence that it has improved productivity at all, yet countless instances of meetings being delayed or cut off due to people needing to move in and out of reserved conference rooms, or meetings that could be in person being done remotely anyway because no room was available.
