I hope that anyone who has anxiety or stress about the possibility of being laid off or being “percented” finds peace. This company is failing and desperate to satisfy investors. It really isn’t you, it’s bp. Leadership has failed. If you are let go, it will su-k and it won’t feel good. But you’re smart, you’re talented, and you’re experienced. You’ve got this. Go out there and get it. <3

@dc you get paid to defer to your leadership. They get paid to defer upwards all the way to ceo,,board,investors. It wouldn't be laying you off if it deferred to oil investors long time ago.

The true peace comes when you reach financial independence and work becomes optional. For those of us more advanced in our careers, talk to a CFP. I was surprised to find out that I don’t need to work one more day and yet have 4-5 millions present day dollars to leave behind even if I stop working right now.

@d6 the deference given to lack luster senior management is atrocious. Been going on for decades. It results in poor messaging from the employees…The leader is surrounded by yes men/women… and results over time shows…Meg is going to simplify with possible acquisitions Santos or Woodside. Shell has BP in close observation and is also keen on LNG to asia…

Why all the sniveling about the company? You chose BP. You show up to work voluntarily. You have the power to change all of that but at least be clear that you alone are responsible.
Stop the gratitudes. BP has been perpetually mismanaged…now the rank and file must be sacrificed. Simple…less leader idolatry. Even Meg O will be gone soon. Look around the perpetual stress is making people sick and even their family members are sick…stop this cycle.

The thing I would add is be prepared as well. Update resume and make a list of contacts at other companies. That will make it su-k less because you will be prepared.

I secured an external offer with a significant uplift in total comp. I’m not going to stick around to find out what happens here. I don’t even want my severance after a decade of service. I want to work and be engaged.
