There is a lot of denial of reality by management. Revenue is going to grow by 6 percent per year and margins will expand 300 bps. Yeah right. They should not be allowed to pitch such unrealistic plans and be forced to deliver their plans.

Worst systems - lots of money spent but lacking in data and process integrity - lack of automation, lack of validations at points in the process that must be right, and integration layers leaking/losing data left & right. Worst support org - lots of people just creating and closing tickets. Institutional lack of business process knowledge, industry requirements, and how to do very basic things. No accountability - teams can majorly impact the business or another team and there is no penalty, leading to successive generations getting d-mber and knowing less & less about the right way to do things.

Can all be fixed - but not when teams are all pulling in separate directions and have unscrupulous folks and vendors building fiefdoms and su-king up $’s. Operationally need to face facts - is not good. Don’t have to be great if the products are good, but should be at least marginally competent, and is a long way to go to get there. If it’s wrong it’s wrong, if it’s broken it’s broken, and if complicit in covering up or not fixing it - then just need to be gone.

Not going to happen though - layoffs will just keep targeting the wrong areas until it’s impossible to do anything - and that ledge is about a half step away now

It's been a long time since I worked at WHQ, but it sounds like things haven't changed very much.

Is campus still filled with middle aged men of dubious talent still pretending that they are randy college frat boys? What about the sorority sisters that put more thought into their jeans/shoes combination for the day than they ever put towards strategic projects? Are there still a bunch of former U of O benchwarmers, some that never attained a degree, still bumping around in management positions that they aren't qualified for? Are executive's mistresses and work wives still getting promotions for all of the unpaid overtime that they put in? Has discretionary and entertainment spending ballooned or been curtailed in comparison to the good old days?

No doubt the company is suffering from some colossally boneheaded business moves in recent years and, in my opinion, a long history of spending on perks and image at the expense of truly desirable products that resonate with consumers. I remember that when Nike was at its peak, you could start to see people losing the trail. If we look at Nike as a family, this would be the third generation to run the place. I'm afraid that "Phil's Grandchildren" lack talent, vision, and will either squander or sell their inheritance before too long.
