Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Objective

Ok, time to get real.

What career objective really matters? Is it only Senior Leader and Corp Leader? How can you tell who is on what path? Any milestones or roles vs age that people would look for? Any examples?

Does Executive Leader matter anymore? Is Career Objective of Chief and Sr Principal still around? Is it worth anything?

What CLs are each of these?

The real decisions in potential are made at La Quinta. The reality is that jobs will continue to be moved to India so you will never reach that career objective they promise as a way to get you to work harder. Not to mention the promotion guidance adding years to the timeline for CL increases as of late. Best route to career advancement is job hopping. Loyalty is not rewarded here or anywhere else.

@OP Your paycheck.

If you’re showing up to work for someone else for any other reason then you should consider therapy.

Time to get real?

You must be insufferable at parties. You’ll do well at EM, backstabber.

@cr This person is right. We are actively moving our senior technical roles to India. It’s not a conspiracy or a racist fantasy - it is supported by facts. Disliking someone’s observation doesn’t make it false. That said, we probably can dial back the name calling?

@ay You are upset at the "makeup" of the students at UT football games, right? Waste of space you are.

None of your objectives or goals matter at EM. Your career path is controlled by a bunch of randos on a mysterious people committee made up of people who don't know you or care anything about you. Your objective should be to find another job somewhere else where your aspirations and contributions will matter.

You do 100% better aligning yourself with a career path that you enjoy and are good at. If your goal is to be VG or higher for a career, put yourself in a place where your talents are maximized.

Don’t try to chase a management career if you are not a natural leader and cannot play the politics. You’ll just be miserable, and you’ll end up landing in a less technical career path with a bunch of other stalled managers.

The technical ladder is dead. Chief and principal is a dead end. Only a matter of time before those roles go to Bangawhore.

All I do is tell people what they should do and why around here because nobody knows how to do anything. Even still I don't think I would ever be considered for leadership roles. It's about having a "sponsor" and going around barking in meetings that gets you those roles from what I can tell.

So you want to be a leader?
Did you major in Leader studies at school?
Did you go to school?
If so, what for?

Leaders are born, OP, not made.

Executive objective does not matter anymore. it is managed by regular councils, made up of same clueless discipline managers as before — no change.

thise with senior leader objective are managed by xex councils , these are the ones with an actual career plan and bulletproof assessment regardless of the mess they create on their way to executive positions, their destinies written by prophecies when they were 1”22- 23 year olds, picked by a senior leader with great vision and god like foresight
