Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Tons of town halls next week

There has to be some big news coming. There is the global town hall to start the week, then most orgs have their discipline or function specific town halls that all mention “building on the global town hall”.

@xx that’s not the case with some of the folks I know who were impacted. Maybe it varies across orgs

if they offered 2 weeks of pay a year severance like they did in 2020 then we would have 30% attrition overnight

@sw watjammer the bold spearhead on DEI eunuchs was not successful because the computational team was not many enough.

@fv Phil Watts donned the space suit for a meeting letter category and above. We never saw anything half as entertaining.

useful information is not shared in town halls. it’s in emails or direct from you line manager. you should know this.

town halls are propaganda meetings designed to humanize the leadership team

a cluster of them simply means that they feel the need to control the narrative

Ultimate result of these endless culling, downsizing exercises - one guy in Europe looking in the mirror saying empathetically “I’m sorry but we’re going to have to let you go.”

I for one welcome the 50% reductions .. half the people means half the number of bad ideas, half the number of reorgs. Given its every year , we could double the stable times to 2 whole years… just imagine it. Oh and it’d make it way easier to restack into half the buildings.

This may be the updates we were supposed to hear from corporate functions regarding their plans to meet Wael’s 50% budget reduction targets by 2030. I imagine anything that came from P&T will be discussing reorg plans, not sure about the rest.

We may finally hear about the computational team. I heard that shell and BP will merge their computational teams as a merger pilot.
