Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We have reached peak delusion.

We’re a complete financial disaster, yet we’re building a new multi-billion dollar campus nobody wants, and this leadership actually thinks the Street isn’t going to react??

The fact that Stink sits in his office talking about and arguing over the number of bowling alley lanes and golf simulators rather than figuring out how to set this company up for financial success is actually fu--ing insane.

These guys have completely lost their minds.

We’re dealing with massive financial pressure, a rapidly changing industry, growing competition and serious threats to the business, and somehow the priority is building a giant corporate playground???

Nobody wants your stupid new HQ. Nobody cares about your bowling alleys. Nobody gives a sh-t about your golf simulators. This was clearly stated in the survey last year. NO OFFICE not new office.

We need leadership focused on making this company financially successful, not designing the fu--ing employee country club.

And the only silver lining is that this guy has already been involved in enough disastrous strategic decisions like TMO, DTV, Time Warner Xandr, etc. etc. etc. that there is absolutely no reason to believe this one will somehow be different.

Undoubtedly, this will prove to be the wrong decision yet again and set this company back decades further than he already has.

At this point, the only question is how much more damage these guys can do before the Street and the board finally says enough is enough. The sound financial decision here is to short the stock before everyone else does.

Nobody wants or cares about your stupid new HQ. Retire and let us go back to the way it was before Covid. Everyone hates you.

No, we can all see what’s gonna happen with that campus. Nobody wants to sit in those condensed desk areas, so you’ll have people camping out in the cafeteria and in any little nook and cranny that has a solitary seat. Everyone will be wearing their headphones so they don’t have to listen to any noise. They had all that cr-p at cricket and nobody ever used it. Had arcade machines and their own weird little radio station cubbyhole, and had to be on the taller floors so all they had to see was trees and not the dirty city streets. Things fade.

Dang, y’all been saying it, I’ve been reading it, but it is just now sinking in.

The survey: They don’t care what we think. They only want to know if we are falling in line. If we have consumed enough koolaid. Because we don’t understand their master plan, the great vision, WE are the problem! And problems get eliminated.

@OP
News Flash! Almost everyone despised the company long before Covid. And many unfavorable decisions were made long before WFH or RTO. These are just the recent complaints with the biggest megaphones. Fact: ATT has been slicing and slashing jobs for longer than most current workers have been employees worked here. Fact: Town halls and employee surveys are always met with disapproval, resentment and rejection of leadership's goals and 'vision'. The fact is leadership does not care what you think. Period.
Hey, not saying you're not entitled to express your opinion about the company. Just know that what you're saying has been expressed thousands of times here and elsewhere. And yet, here we are. Life is short. Perhaps find a job elsewhere or ignore the noise. Your choice.

My college nephew said the company is at his school recruiting. I told him about the new campus in Plano. He LOL'd. "Plano? No thank, you!"

A repeat of a repeat! Prior to 1/1/1984...there was the AT&T 550 MADISON AVE...NYC. AT&T had huge campuses in NJ. Execs arrived at old AT&T headquarters 195 Broadway NYC in their chauffeur limos each morning. All history! NOW THIS!

“ I just wonder how many people they are planning to layoff to pay for it. 40k? 50k? “

You’re implying that they consider fiscal responsibility in these decisions. Yes, they will lay off a bunch more people. But that has zero to do with paying for an extravagant new campus that no one wants.

They only care about themselves their inner circle and their families. Is easy to sit at leadership conference and act like you care about the broader organization and employees when your policies create toxicities in the work culture.

@ad Totally agree. Mob tech here and all of our new hires are non English speakers or first gen Americans. They don’t know anything but they run a pc. Good enough to be a parts changer I guess. Operations doesn’t want us thinking and making decisions. Just do the thing. So many ptobals are getting missed or glazed over. I’m mid 40’s and have no debt. Thank God. We used to take ownership over our cellsites and had pride. But if you have pride, you’ll raise issues out in the field. And that’s a quick way to be ignored at the ph--kin place.

The new campus does look incredible, I will give them that. I just wonder how many people they are planning to layoff to pay for it. 40k? 50k? They are going to try and fit everyone not in the field or a retail store in those buildings. Everyone not in Plano has a clock ticking.

@bs don’t need your “research” I am the “young people” you speak of. We hate RTO. I want to WFH. Saving money is impossible by going into the office. Stop trying to tell me what I want.

ask your god AI what younger workers actually want. Look at the surveys, check the data. You’re just beating a dead horse at this point this is a different era, they are a different generation

@br actually not true. Research says younger employees believe being in offices give them visibility for fast promotions, and its the only escape they have from their parents house.

you have to be delusional to think that putting up a brick building is going to attract younger talent Ask them what they actually want: flexible work, career growth and better compensation and benefits

same as current employees

Did anyone else catch his opening comment, "Dont ask for anything, everything is already decided." I'm guessing they did not ask not one employee how we actually work best, they're telling us how we will work, or there's the door!

All that square footage dedicated to chilling out and meeting up, but couldn't find any space to give us our own desk!

This new campus is important to him BECAUSE dollars to donuts they will announce that it will become the Stankey Campus. once it is dedicated, he will surely retire. It’s all about building a monument to himself.

Stankey is disconnected from the workforce, everything is handed to him and he faces no hardships. Essentially he keeps his millions in his pocket and the company foots the bills for his luxurious life style from private jets to multiple homes!!
