RSU question post-layoff

Got laid off a few weeks back and have some questions on the RSUs. If stock continues to drop, should I cash these out now versus waiting until the end of my severance to get the full paycheck? I’m worried what I have in here will tank by the time I get paid out, but this is also the first company I’ve had RSUs with so it’s still confusing to me

Your confusion severance pay with RSU. RSU vests and they stocks, once they are yours (aka vested) you can do whatever you want with them. Do some reading, it’s not complex, lots of material available online

@10j you get to keep your E*Trade account, be sure to put it in your personal email adres so you keep access. Any vested stock remains on the account, I was not given any restrictions just lost all unvested stock.

@tj do I get to keep stocks for that long if I’m laid off? The paperwork sounded like we’d be paid out our balance by a certain date, but not sure.

Bad for fired people, but I believe keeping the stocks for a year from now is not a bad idea since margin is expected to stabilize which will attract investors

Always sell RSUs immediately and reinvest them in a broad market index. Especially with a company tanking as fast as this one.

you have already paid taxes on the RSU's, so you should sell if you think the stock will keep going down. If the price goes up, you only pay taxes on the profits.

You keep any vested stock also after your termination date, so no rush to sell
