Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Can someone explain how you advance your career here if you are de-layering?

If your only career path here is the management track and they are removing management layers to flatten the organization...so how exactly are people going to get promoted then? They aren't doing any kind of career growth track for SMEs. You might get to a senior level as an SME and that's it.

An SME in what? An ancient product way behind modern competition and market standards?

Anything you become an expert in here is totally irrelevant to any outside organisation

Fiserv is where careers go to die

Get out as quickly as possible

You get promoted by accepting a position at another company. When it is time to get promoted again, you accept a position and another company after that.

Maybe you will come back to Fiserv as a VP who has a clause in their contract with a multi million dollar payout if the CEO leaves. Then you can retire because you have won the game.

@OP You can grow your career at Fiserv. Have you even tried? Don't sit back and be lazy. Go after what you want. You have to develop and be effective at leading before someone is going to hand you a role or assignment.

@OP The interview question: "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Fiserv employees are going to be in the same place they were 5 years ago.
"Why do you want to work here?"
Answer: "I value growth and skill diversity, and I'm a life-long learner."
Never badmouth your previous employer, but if you must say something, say the industry has been very challenging. Excessive restructuring has not always gone as expected.

I have seen and heard, Sr leaders are not even considering or giving a chance if internal people are trying to move to Sr roles! Everyone wants to hire from outside so internal employees have no chance! We just have to look outside so there is absolutely no growth here unless you are friend or family to VPs, SVPs and CTOs.
