Is now laid off. Directs were stripped a few weeks ago. Did not see it coming. At all.

Crazy stuff like this always happens. Almost a year and a half ago our VP got laid off and those of us who has employees who were being let go knew before he did because we received the anti-age discrimination document and his title was on it as being selected for the lay off. He didn’t receive this document because none of his direct reports were being laid off…
@op The manager who told me that leadership doesn’t think about my long term future, is a goner. Don’t think managers are in the loop.
There is no logic. I've seen high performers and low performers cut. Terrible managers promoted and great ones laid off. The formula can be pay, job roles, who likes you, or whatever the random objective of the month is to get people off payroll.
@ds this happens all the time. I knew a sr director that just hated one of his direct reports so one day he devised a plan to reorg the organization just to put her on a team she would fail at and then 2 mo the later she was “laid off”.
These people are dirtbags and it’s not a minority.
A few years ago, I was promoted to a leadership role and given direct reports but not given leadership support. I asked questions and asked about support and training for my team for my team. Five months into my leadership position, I was cut, along with most of my team. As a manager I had no clue, but I did at times have hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I, along with my teammates, had been high performers, 4s and 5s…always. It didn’t make sense other than being a line on a spreadsheet. The point being, you will never make sense of it.
I eventually went back to work there too, but ultimately left due to the constant stress of layoff culture. I truly hope they find a way to right that ship. No one enjoys working like that. Best of luck!

Yes managers often do not know. My manager was laid off an hour before I was. They didn't even let him know his staff was also let go, we had to nofify him! It was a bad situation all around.
They lie to managers as well
