Supposedly in office VPN usage is now beign monitored

I am in the department that houses everything security related and was told by a person who actually reports this stuff...
While badge swipes ARE still being tracked - tracked as in making sure you are there 5 days/week, you trolling mongorals - but VPN usage is ALSO being monitored.

This is to prevent coffee badging, basically. When you go to an office, you have to connect to the building's/whatever area you are in WiFi before you can connect to VPN. Therefore your computer is assigned an internal Dell IP address. As soon as you connect to that, it starts getting logged. As soon as you disconnect and go home, that gets logged.

The minimum time they want is 1 hour of connectivity as of now.

Source - work with the guy who literally sends these reports up the chain.

its always been monitored... the question is does any one looks at it. when i was managing several teams, i had a tech i couldn't prove he was doing nothing... i went to i.t. to get times usage ect.... they had me go to hr first and then legal.. once i got it approved i was given access to reporting to our site for vpn access: ntlogin mac, ip and time with each and usage of sites including each site visited both internal and xternal..

if you want to get worried read the login screen on your labtop before you put in your pin... everything is tracked and you agree to it every day.

Shouldn't they be doing that as that VPN connection could introduce Trojans and viruses? Just a WAG

Management in my org has been very quiet about RTO the last six months. Do they even care at this point? (I imagine this is highly dependent on what organization you’re in and whether your team is all in the same place or spread around the globe)

Well maybe instead of pocketing billions, they could give us COL increases so that we can afford the gas to commute.
