Keeping Dell medical insurance is a great option, but cobra is very expensive. So many suggestions and options out there. If you went with another option, please share.

@m2 no way this is in the US
@m2 do share interest in finding out how
I haven’t had to pay one penny of health care cost for the last 11 years. And I go to the doctors a lot. I know the secret in free health care. No copays, no dr-g costs, nothing everything is FREE.
To maximize subsidies requires controlling your MAGI so either live within your means or have a buffer of post-tax cash savings to supplement your post-job experience. A new tax year resets the clock so those lack of subsidies this year change the picture next year. This isn't very hard for anybody with a brain to grasp.
You can stop being a lazy b-m and get a job with benefits, or you can die in the streets. That's what Republicans believe should happen to you.
No ACA plans are not naturally “cheaper”. It’s entirely based on how much you’ve earned for the year.
This isn’t some great mystery either. Anyone can go to the website and calculate what it would cost.
@ef That's a bunch of bull. ACA/Obamacare plans were much much less with better protections. I dropped Cobra after 1 month after I retired from Dell and got a comparable plan to our employee insurance but it cost only $200/month vs $700 for COBRA(This is 2020 timeframe).
ACA/Obamacare plans are cheaper for the same benefits and also offer better protections. Those ACA plans are increasing sharply the last few years since Trump ki-led subsidies for the working poor. That led to fewer customers for insurance companies as they dropped their insurance plans. Less customers means higher premiums. MAGA!!
Yes, they basically punish you because they calculate it at your former salary, even though you just lost your job.
I looked into Obama care as an alternative, but it was literally the same price or more expensive than cobra.
You’re learning a valuable lesson about the affordable care act… It’s not meant to be “affordable” for you or me.
There are ways to minimize your reported income if you’re forced to retire early, and if you can swing it, the ACA (Obamacare) marketplace options are actually very affordable. Generally requires some advanced planning, ie having your retirement funds in the right kind of accounts. Worth talking to a financial advisor about before you find yourself suddenly without a job before you’re eligible for Medicare.
I don’t know of any other affordable options other than piggybacking on a spouse’s plan, which I assume is not an option if you’re asking this question. Good luck.
Obamacare? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Cobra is a joke!! It's prohibitively expensive.
