We can’t staff the projects that management wants to go fast yet there is pressure to reduce headcount in Houston! The Horizon challenge will only get worse. Even the teams that are staffed are full of people who don’t know how to get things done.

@18e horizon challenge is recognition that the best projects in Guyana and Permian have been completed and we need to be looking elslewhere quickly for the next projects to avoid declining production volumes. Sadly our current executives seem to have a huge recency bias and have been sold the idea that everything is as easy as Guyana and Permian and now do not understand that a project in other places will require more people and take longer due to the fact that not every government is as easy to work with as the Guyanese and Americans. Most other countries require a whole lot more interaction and approval from the host government which really slows things down and takes a lot more people to do the work. Add to that the fact that the first thing every project needs is to understand the reservoir and we have no reservoir support and the projects aren’t moving as fast as executives want. Reservoir is under tremendous pressure to go faster with not enough experienced people. Reservoir delays are then putting pressure on the rest of the team to commit to overly aggressive schedules for completing their work and execution of the project again with not enough people and not enough qualified people.
We made our best reservoir and geoscientists go when we got rid of the UK and Australia. And now, the very same managers are complaining that they don’t have the talent pipeline.

The first problem was calling this thing horizon. Haughty at best and shows complete lack of awareness of the upstream.
Yep. My "leaders" keep offering to get me help from offshore staff, and I always tell them "That's not help. It's an extra person to carry who knows nothing."
