Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

For the ones that didn’t pick VSP would you do it if there was another round?

After finding out that my whole leadership took VSP and now part of a re-org I feel like my “new” team will be dissolved with my leadership departure. I would have taken the VSP if I would have known. Wondering if others feel that same.

@1ce Agree! They should be considered an invasive species, such as a weed or plant or fish from another country that takes over the native species.

@15s American citizens and especially the American citizen middle class workforce should view Cognizant as an enemy occupying force.

@c9 when did they extend it I don’t remember an extension at Centene

@14w - Multi-million or multi-billion-dollar IT services agreements like the Cognizant-Centene deal are considered "mega deals" and are relatively uncommon. Acting as if it’s business as usual is a bit weird.

@14x All of these health insurance corporations are messing up so bad with how they are handling decisions in regards to seasoned, tenured, experienced American citizen workers and also how they are handling AI it is almost hard to believe.

You cannot make this stuff up. 5 years from now, they will all be like, “Boy, did we ever get that wrong!”

@bv so have I and this one is very different. To start with It was much more secretive. The scale of it is also massive compared with any other I’ve been a part of and I’ve worked on other large companies. The amount of public issues, members and dollars lost is massive here.

@146 and others- we get the obsession with Cognizant but it is a done deal. If it wasn’t them it would be some other tech company, most of whom use offshore labor, to do the AI for Centene. No one was complaining until it personally affected them. Same old story!

@pk - the VSP is how they paid for the Cognizant deal. They needed a big layoff to free up funds, but couldn’t do a layered layoff cleanly and fast enough. VSP allowed the true intent to be hidden behind “altruistic” claims. Going forward … layoffs as usual as they move back office functions to Cognizant (aka offshore)

I would definitely take it, I hesitated and ended up not taking it the first round because I am the sole provider in my home, and the job market is super scarce right now, to the point it would take months to find another position that has a decent salary, if a job can be found at all.
However, Centenes shadiness and BS "transparency" just keeps hitting a new low.
Daily reminder that we are just numbers to them, not people. So long as leadership, I.e. Sarah... is getting their fat paychecks and bonuses, they could care less about the people that are getting them there.

@ps yes they will do those with minimal notice, lower severance and no bonuses.

@pk oh then you mean layoffs 🤪

@dv they won’t offer it again.Too many people accepted it. Before anyone says oh but layoffs, the layoffs are for positions they have either decided they can do without, that they can pay someone less to do, or an excuse to be rid of someone they no longer wanted to employ.

I’d definitely give it far more thought than the first round. But if the conditions are the same (they decide who and when) then absolutely not.

I most likely would take it. After seeing how things are going I’m sure my job is gone. Once Cognizant comes on board—game over for American workers.

@cv it’s shady you’re correct, leadership knew they were exiting CA and Oregon Commercial Insurance plans ,we got bluffed

I probably would look at it much more closely. But I would also want to know my exact, unchangeable, unmovable, no extenuating circumstances exit date that I ALSO AGREE TO before I accept.

Depends on how quickly it was offered since the last VSP. If there was another round in the next 365 days, 100% would take it. If the org sees the need to offer it again in a short period of time, I would absolutely take it. 5 years from now? That would be a harder choice.

If you are CM you should of taken it. After hearing the plan in store from the townhall. You are going to be bled dry

@cv You’re making too much of this. Most the business is government sponsored programs. The commercial side is just a small part.

There are new job postings with higher salaries than current employees. So are they hiring new people to pay them more during the restructuring?

Yes I would take it. I know more smaller layoffs will be happening in the near future according to our senior leadership. Who said, there will be more restructuring as we continue to move forward with Mission Simplify. At this time we cannot guarantee that there won’t be additional RIF’s within the organization. When asked is if our market was safe they simply said at this time they feel as though our market is safe but that can change at anytime.

100% yes. And they should offer it again to the CA and OR employees since they knew at the time of the VSP offer that we were exiting the commercial markets. I know they won't but its shady IMO.

100% especially since they extended the dates. I would’ve applied anyway if I knew about extensions. I’m in a better position now than in July and there are numerous jobs being posted that I’m qualified for but it was dust back when VSP was announced.

@ae I love your positivity! I have been part of many re-orgs over almost two decades. The business is constantly evolving and we have to evolve with it.

@ae this is not your typical restructure, this is months of layoffs heading our way.
Re-orgs are another way of placing you somewhere until they no longer need you.

Nope I would not have taken it. Restructures happen all the time. I see it as an opportunity to learn and grow and expand in knowledge. I fully expect to be downvoted but I really am just an every day contributor

Definitely would take it. Something feels off now, the threat of RIF’s still looming and re-org means having being shuffled around. This is daily anxiety. Can’t work like this forever, something has to give.
