Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Crippling Anxiety

I hate what Teradata has become, expecting us to work 12-14 hour days to meet unrealistic expectations.. we can’t sleep, we can’t eat, we can’t spend time with our families. There is no work-life balance here

@ex If you are one of those who CANNOT afford not to work, then you must find another job. Not snapping, but truth. There are worse places, no newsflash. But this place has only one strategy, cutting jobs. Dedicated, devoted, hold long enough - for what? To be restructured? Is there any adult in the room who thinks they will work/perform their way out of this? Seriously?

Here is a math for you. Find out how many weeks of severance you may get. Multiply by three. If you can retire in those many months from next RIF, stay. Do just enough and wait for your number. You are welcome.

Waiting it out until retirement is a risk...unless you are months away. Even then with weekly layoffs, who knows. Anybody's bet

We can argue both ways. If you are in US, near an economically active town, you should look. Know that job market is terrible. Also know, people are still getting jobs in 6 - 8 weeks. Just like folks are looking over one year. It is not doom and gloom across the board.
Unless you are waiting it out to retirement, apply for jobs and see what is out there. Teradata may turn around, but chances are slim. Don't have to repeat what is said here many times already. Teradata has no chance because we have no idea what we are doing and there is no incentive to even try. So, why are you trying op?

Lots of people snap back, "Then find another job." Depending on where you are located, your age, the market, sometimes that is easier daid than done. I have a friend who lost a job with another company and is still looking 1 year later.

Some of you can afford not to work for a time period. Some of us CANNOT. Therr's also this sweet spot in age where you do NOT want to be - too close to retirement....way too far to quit.

And finally - whether right or wrong - some of us feel trapped here. We complain about being overworked and how we are treated, but we can't seem to take the step to get out. I know. That is our fault.

Too dedicated.

Too devoted the corporate gods who make us their victims...our fault again, but feeling like you can't get out is real.

Feeling like if we hold on long enough, it will turn around.

Feeling like it will get better. That we have too many years and put in too much blood, sweat, and tears to leave.

And yes, the fear of it being worse somewhere else. (Newsflash - doubt that it is).

Yes, it just su-ks. Good luck. Let's figure a way to escape.

Employees at OpenAI (who teradata elt think are their competitors hahahaha) never have to worry about layoffs and are counting their stock options which will pay for their house 5x over.

Teradata employees are always under threat of layoffs, dont get options and even if they did it they wouldnt make them much money.

Sometimes you just need to realize when youre on a sinking ship.

Another solution is find another job at a better/healthy company that understands the work/life balance, especially when the next unscheduled 15-minute meeting can come at any second kicking you to the curb.

Imagine if more people pushed back and refused to take on the jobs of 3 other people. It would be a job seekers market again, and next to zero layoffs. And god forbid the company only makes 13 billion dollars in profit instead of 14.

Simple solution, simply work your 8 hours and go home. Why are you punishing yourself? Are you aware that is unsustainable? Your mental health will be destroyed if you continue to comply with unrealistic goals.

Have you had the word "no" surgically removed from your vocabulary?

Of course they will push you to do more and more, for as long as you continue to comply.
