Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I'm Leaving Anyway ... Can I Take Someone Elses Layoff?

i am planning to leave the company anyway, I have been thinking about something.

If layoffs hit my group, can I privately tell my manager or HR that I am willing to be included in the reduction instead of someone who actually wants and needs to stay? I am not looking to get fired or play games with performance. i would rather take the layoff myself if my departure could save someone elses job.

Has anyone actually done this at Oracle? Did they allow it and what are the risks...

@ab I also did same as there was no reward, recognition and motivation left for me. He put my name and I got severance package with my 45% vested RSUs. I joined other company after 2 weeks with much better salary + compensation. And enjoying it so far 😍

I did it for this latest RIF round. Let my manager know I was planning to leave and would prefer to be laid off to get the severance package. He was kind enough to oblige.

You could do that before the notice.
But it’s too late this time.
If oracle allows that, rumor spread , everyone stops to sign and start to wait for someone would help or ask someone to help.
What’s more important is that this is not the final rif. If you could help someone this time, the one will be notified next time.

You can leave now but you cannot receive severance unless you are on the list.

My recommendation is to tell your manager that you willingly accept severance next time.

Risk is that your manager may not give you any promotion or other good opportunities for your growth anymore. Company doesn’t want to invest on whom may leave.

I have. Left in previous round of layoffs in March. I let him know a few months beforehand. You can make this known to your manager, but for this round it might be too late.

Honestly I think it depends. I have no idea if I was going to be cut anyway but I did say something to my manager. Unless you are ridiculously young tell them you will be retiring. However you probably want to do it closer to a RIF you’re certain is coming soon. If you already have another job offer that you’re accepting then I think it’s too late.

Just coast until the next layoff hits you.

nope cuts have already happened. You cannot reverse time on that. Leaving is a good thing if you haven't announced it. Usually these cuts are there to right size and to avoid losing talent they can't live with out. By announcing you're leaving you're able to put a negative mark about their environment and their ability to retain talent. (You're now a regrettable attrition).
