I got another rejection, wrapped up in all the usual nice words about my experience. Apparently someone else was a better match, which is probably true, but it doesn't make getting rejected any more fun. I'm trying not to take it personally and just keep applying. Anyone else spending way too much time reading these emails lately?

@gg The Scarlet V is real. I once thought it would enhance my resume but I have recently learned different. After discussing a documented winning track record with larger more successful corporations over the years, I get something like, "So..... Tell me about Verizon. What was that like?" With an almost pained but can't look away expression. I think they mainly want to know if will you say that you performed well, did what was asked and didn't leave until it was their decision. Most know the truth so they don't need or want to hear it. And if they hear bubble gum k-pop stories about work besties, they will know you are full of it. HR from one place talks unfiltered and straight with HR from other places around a private water cooler like conferences and seminars. They know what is really going on behind the curtains. Some hate it as much as we do.
I once had an interviewer tell me they did not like Verizon and wanted to see what type of person had worked there. That was all the interview was for.
@c3 Sorry to hear that! Ageism is all too common including at Verizon itself.
It is tough. I applied to jobs and can easily do the job. But hiring managers are reluctant to hire mature people and especially those that were laid off. They are afraid that there might be something wrong with your performance. It should not be that way, but there is still a stigma.
Try to change your last name to Singh on your resume and if they ask you are in a process of changing last name. Also, it’s not that you are not qualified, you aren’t a crony or a nepo baby in the worst economy since the Great Depression
@OP It stinks but don’t take it personally. There are all kinds of reasons you might get rejected that have nothing to do with you.
Some segments of the economy are growing while others are declining like telecom. Focus your search on the ones that are growing or at least holding steady. It increases your chances of success.
