I've seen managers slowly chip away at someone's confidence until that person starts believing they can't do better anywhere else. They make the job feel like some privilege you should be grateful for, even when the conditions are terrible. Eventually you're so exhausted and beaten down that you stop looking for something better. That's what makes this kind of management so nasty.

And that is why they are called managers. Leaders don’t act like that, but then again, most of our leadership are actually managers.
