It feels like there are more people managing meetings and reports than actually getting things done. Newer employees are especially sc--wed because they don't have many real leaders left to learn from.

We've gone paperwork and status meeting mad in the last few years. It used to be a small part of the job. Now it's pretty much all we do. A 3 character change to some code or config requires about 30 pages of documentation and yet more meetings to review it all. The reality is that all this faffing for things so trivial has lead to the clients not putting work out way at all. So we spend even more time on status meetings reporting no change.
Meanwhile nobody can plan, so we're allocated 100% to a project - which just needs that 3 character change and we are blocked from doing anything else for months. They could let 75% of the staff go if they would just accept that it might be a couple of days to make the change. But everyone's project is top priority so they just demand dedicated resources. So we just sit around doing not much. It's stupid. We'd love to do real work, or be let go on VR, but we're just being blocked. At least it justifies why there are no pay rises.
Tired of your UK bsss. Can you guys please stop.
