I was recently re-allocated to a new (for me) department. I've been with the bank for 20 years and have been shuffled around before but it was usually due to old team being absorbed for another project. This time feels different. My boss and his boss pulled up to inform me that I was being moved to another department as they have an urgent need in GFC for investigations/research. I’m curious if anyone knows how/why it’s determined who gets moved off the team/department they’ve been in for 10+ years to a new department. My old team is still active and together, but I’m the one moved. For reference, Meets/Meets, B5, salaried.

They had to pick someone so they decided to sacrifice you. This is also why the performance rating suddenly "changed" right before. GFC might manage people out, or it might work out for few. Look elsewhere just in case.
Being moved as well but from a different org altogether. Last minute as well.
Is this happening within Global ops or other ones like global risk as well?
Don't listen to these fools. You were moved due to the fact that department just open up a reporting threshold that will generate thousands of new cases. They need as many bodies as possible over there. The bank received fines due to issues with threshold reporting. It's all public information. They are hiring close to 3k people over there
Did you come from global ops? We had like 300+ teammates get moved over to GFC from 2023-2026 and some are still in role and enjoying it, others hate it but can't find anything else, and some were laid off but I know a few who were let go because they had a poor attitude. The bank can move you at any time I've learn. I've been moved 3 times in 7 years (16+ years with bank) and each was okay but my current role is great and am glad I was put in it. I'd say come in wanting to learn and ask questions and start looking for jobs out there seems like people do enjoy AML jobs but kinda hard to get in without prior experience
You were moved out to make room for another cronie or a favorite.
In layoffs, the new guy gets the boot - especially if paid the most... I could be wrong but does not hurt to start looking.
I have seen some top talent teammates get realigned to GFC recently so I wouldn't take the move as a bad thing. Likely if you give it time it will open up a lot of opportunities for you to further your career.
It's always an uneasy position to be in initially, but it will turn out to be a good move.
numbers. But its to keep from laying off some one (i.e. you) and paying severance. You maybe managed out here but this is how you handle it.
walk with confidence as if I was moved here because of my expertise and be aggressive as though you are the choosen one. Not cocky or disrespectful just as a voice of knowledge. Drive process, call meetings, etc.
- or*
You can do rhe minimum, drag azz and wait on the severance.
But be job hunting in parallel.
I would choose #1 so IF you get that severance you know you didnt just roll over. Plus you can practice on how to walk with confidence for your next role.
You are being moved, to serve as a sacrificial lamb for the new department. This helps insulate some of the existing team members from layoffs.
