Oh heavenly father and all the saints please save us. Did I just read that this is about a Verizon app?
I did't know Verizon was actually still trying to develop apps after the disaster they had a few years back. Verizon tried to develop on their own app because they knew better than app developers how to develop an app.
They developed one app to be used on three platforms. All three were supposed to have identical functions and identical menus. After all, all three platform versions were logging into one system from three different platforms so thousands of users could all accomplish the same tasks throughout the day.
Identical functions found on each app had different names for each platform version. And to make it worse different functions on each app shared the name of a different function on another platform version. You could not move from the Android app to the Apple app and know how to use it. Total madness. It got worse because the functions failed during testing and each time they fixed a failure the fix created a new failure in another area and the failures and fixes were different on each platform version.
This is the result of having each platform version created by three different teams who were not allowed to speak to each other.
NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK TO EACH OTHER
I sh-t you not.
And let me clarify another point. When I say Verizon knew better than app developers on how to create an app I mean they hired an app developer and then told the developer how to create the app and when the developer said that won't work management ignored them and told them to continue. When the inevitable happened they blamed the developer. A professional developer who knows how to make apps and has done so successfully for many companies. I wish I could remember who it was that led that project. They're probably long gone by now. But judging by some of the posts I've just read, they are probably executives by now. This is gold.
Thank you for this. I haven't laughed this hard in so long. I am screenshotting everything to share with all of my coworkers that went through the circus years ago. It has been the source of so many jokes in meetings ever since we wrapped up that contract and got out of there as fast as we could.
We actually developed a training program using all of the Verizon experiences to demonstrate how not to manage a project.
I need a drink. I just remembered that app had "One" in the name as well.
Does Verizon have a "One" fetish?
This is beautiful. Flipping beautiful. Comedy gold. Thank you so much.
