PIPs are rarely about improving performance. They're about building paperwork to fire you. If you get one, start looking. I'm talking from personal experience.

I'd really like to hear from Andy.
@OP This place seems to ban people
You got 20 thousand people to remove from payroll. 260 million dollars in unemployment at stake. This is why PIP exists. Only wish there was some way to prevent this abuse. Don't sit there and listen to it. Document the work and put the tape recorder on the table.
@1e8 Sounds like Andy's next move is:
"welcome to Walmart. Please see our daily specials in aisle 5".
@1e8 WWAD? In this case: pack her personal sit, turn that PIP into a self-directed exit strategy, grab the client list from the little sithole she works at, and bolt to the highest-paying competitor to hawk NAAS. That’s not a career move—that’s WWAD with a severance package.
WWAD = What Would Andy Do?
PIP is a way to get you to self-fire so the company can save money on unemployment. Illegal yes. They will make sure you miss your numbers, seen many times.
If you are too good, they change it and not tell you. not sure what can be done. You can't document a system they don't tell you how it works. Managers and Supervisors are given orders from up top. Don't blame them.
OP, as someone who has spent more than 25 years in sales, my experience has been that, at least in many of our sales organizations, raising this question can put a target on your back.
Once you "throw your hat in the ring," many managers and leaders may begin to view it as a sign that you've lost a step or that your focus has shifted elsewhere. From that point forward, the emphasis can subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, move toward managing you out or preparing for your eventual departure.
I've seen reps reassigned to different modules or roles. I've also seen performance issues receive heightened scrutiny, where a single missed month can accelerate a PIP process that might not have been initiated otherwise. In some cases, high-value accounts or large pending opportunities are reassigned, especially if leadership is aware of an upcoming reorganization.
It's important to remember that, like all of us, managers and leadership teams often act in their own self-interest. While they may genuinely wish you well and support you on a personal level, that goodwill does not always extend beyond the limits of their own job security and professional self-preservation. That doesn't mean every manager or operates this way, but I've seen it happen often enough here to approach these situations with a healthy degree of realism and caution.
When’s the next layoff lottery?
I don’t really miss that toxic dumpster fire
Best thing that ever happened.
Don’t worry HR has been outsourced got rid of them first
Lame company- Just walk away from that toxic place. You won't be disappointed!
Omg speaking from
Having seen what they do to people in Norristown pa .. the managers are total
Sc-mbags .. should all
Be taken to court
@zy Yeah! Nobody gives a F about Andy.
@mk who the f*k is Ady? And where is Norristown? Lumen is a lot bigger than your little sh*thole. There is dead weight everywhere. PIP them all.
@jw A*dy, one bad PIP experience in Norristown doesn’t make every PIP a setup. Without evidence, it’s just an opinion.
@ex That’s a lot of confidence for someone offering so little evidence. Calling everyone else “Kool-Aid drinkers” doesn’t make your opinion facts—it just makes the rant louder.
And the Edsel comparison is perfect: lots of noise, plenty of opinions, and absolutely no proof that you know what’s under the hood.
For Lumen HR can confirm this. Place is a dumpster fire.
If tou got a PIP then you've been on the radar for awhile before then. PIP shouldn't have been a surprise and you should have seen the signs to correct whatever it was that got you down that path. PIP is a necessary tool. Look at it as a final notice to unf**ck yourself.
Consider yourself lucky if you're still employed and making money.
The AI generation would gladly have your job.
KJ and her crew only like the shepple who drink the Brene Brown kool aid . Bringing down your armour and telling KJ or an SVP what's really going with the metrics only gets you on the next layoff list. They don't want to tell the real story 'cause that don't look good to Wall Street. Lumen aint doing anything different than any other company in the marketplace, except continuing to lose revenue on legacy products and increasing their debt. They can gussie it up all they want, its still an Edsel.
@aj I thought things from your file were sent to archives after 7 years.
Yep, makes one wonder who actually is a valued member of this institution, doesn't it!
You can unionize too IF job security is what u r after. Heck, even coffee baristas have a union now.
Same thing with write-ups. Got written up in 2020 for metrics, it was auto generated. I doubt these write ups roll off your record, so three no matter how many years spaced apart and your done(I think-noone has given me a straight answer on this)
Then you have employees who've been on PIP's multiple times for poor completion rates who still haven't been fired. People are sleeping in their dams vans and trucks and nothing is happening to them. Makes you wonder sometimes.
