Working from office, less productive

Anybody noticed that their productivity has gone down since the return to office mandate has been in place?

Me for instance, I have noticed my productivity has gone down while the hours worked and in office have increased. It's quite unmotivating being monitored for being in office for 8 hours, as well as all my activity being monitored. Needless to say I am miserable.

This might surprise you, but sitting in a random cube farm full of distractions isn't my job, or "work". It's the opposite of work, it's a huge waste of money, and it's rife with unnecessary risk as well. It's also not what the rest of the country is doing. It's what dinosaurs are doing. Millions WFH. 9k WF are doing it full time right now. Tens of thousands do it in their non-office days. The CEO does it. His assistant is fully remote.

I hear gripping and complaining in the office. It’s almost impossible to tune them out and get work done. At home I can do my work in silence. Way more productive at home.

@b5 you better believe these same people enacting the rto movement are going along with it and doing it.
Reminds me of that scene in National Lampoons Christmas vacation movie, the boss didn't even know who he was.

With everything costing 3x or 4x times as much these days for no real reason behind it, no wonder.

Of course @mw is also the crank bi--hing about no 9/11 message from Charlie- posted at the same time. Just thrashing around for anything to be outraged about.

How exactly does one ascertain that their own productivity has gone down? Fewer trips to the gym, less grocery shopping, less couch time watching Oprah? If you are consciously doing less because youre a mental mid-et with an entitlement complex thats your problem and has nothing to do with being forced to go to work like 99% of the country. Grow up mo--n.

@fa they think the pressure to look productive when everyone can see what you're doing will force productivity to rise.

Agree on all points. The culture is now….this is a job and therefore your work location is an office. Forget talking about productivity or whether you talk to anyone while you are at the office. None of it matters or is part of the decision process. They see 2 days remote as a gift for now. The new office design is no walls so everyone can see what you ate for lunch or whether you are sleeping. No privacy for sleeping in your cube….fortunately the restrooms are still private : at least i think they are

Look at the RTO timeline.

Initial RTO was in-office collaboration, water-cooler discussions, cross-team innovation.

Then it was core and specialty markets, if you're not in a hub, expect to go.

Now it's "we need groups together, geographically"

The one common thread is torturing the existing workforce into quitting.

All this true- as is the fact the OC doesn't care. They just want butts in seats.

Yeah, if you work in Third Party International in Ballantyne, you gotta deal with the manager T.J shaming you in front of the floor & gossiping about you to everyone. Ugh.

This topic has been beaten to death. Yes, in office is a joke, no it’s not for productivity. It’s to get you to quit. This is by design. Now my real question is why do Indians feel like they need to scream down the phone line in the office?

But......but.......but......you cannot "collaborate" unless you are face to face. What a bunch of duplicitous d!p$h!t$ that push this gaslighting. And they probably sleep with a grin on their face just like the Grinch did (although, something tells me there is no cathartic experience that will transform any of these soulless scoundrels).

My a-s is in the chair more often. The metrics say I am more productive, therefore I am.

HY doesn't care if soon to be downsized people are productive or not.

Especially when they make you go in to an office while your remote teammates are still halfway across the country and have you use the same collaboration tools that you used when working from home. That and having a cubicle mate who pharts like a mule...
